Job Purpose:
In this role, you will be part of the 1RA cross-business group Innovations and Advocacy Regulatory Affairs capability in Africa. Regulatory Affairs is a critical business function in supporting the delivery of impactful innovations and Unilever strategic priorities for the future. A technical function within R&D, RA works towards enabling exciting technologies and new science in the market as part of business group strategies.

You should have the ability to be a connector & collaborator that can connect widely across functions as well as externally. As the Regulatory Affairs Manager, you partner project teams to navigate the regulatory framework and to implement advocacy programmes to support delivery of the future formats, technologies, claims.

Innovation and Advocacy- Lead regulatory input into assigned projects that enables the landing of compliant, competitive products in the market (labelling, permitted ingredients, additives/ formulations, standards, new regulations, etc)- Provide a regulatory assessment and advise on risks for the countries in which the product is to be marketed.- Participate Regional Claims Forums and provide regulatory input and approval of claims for assigned projects/ BGs.- Act as an expert on regulatory developments which could affect the (category) products in the cluster and ensure that these developments are incorporated into the cluster innovation plans.- Provides regulatory updates on regulations affecting the cluster/category on the specific area/category, gives/organizes trainings.- Anticipates regulatory challenges for the future which could drive the external influencing agenda for the cluster as input for the advocacy agenda, innovation plans.- Coordinates/leads regional regulatory information flow (between Global-Regional-Local regulatory teams) within areas of responsibility.- Represent Unilever in external bodies (Trade Associations, Alliances, Regulatory Authorities and Key Influencers).

Issue Management- Contributes to information on issues, issue management, and regulatory news of the cluster within R&D.- Can be the issue leader of topics related to own expertise and cluster (Communications & Corporate Affairs leads).

Team Leadership and Support

Contributes to Global R&D RA network, communicating information on issues, issue management, and regulatory news within R&D and other functions.- Ensures regulatory training is delivered on relevant scientific areas, legislation, and human/environmental safety within both the wider RA team, and especially within the R&D, Brand, Supply Chain and Customer Development.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant science degree - Food Science/Technology, Food Engineering, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Regulatory Affairs/ R&D or in a technical role within FMCG.- Relevant Regulations, Standards and Guidance governing relevant products
