- We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Governance Specialist - Financial Lines within our SHA Risk Specialists division.**What will make you successful in this role?**

**Key responsibilities include**:
**Technical Underwriting - Financial Lines**:

- Support Business Head: Technical & Governance in:

- maintenance of the BU Underwriting Practice Policy
- maintenance of Underwriting Governance Folder
- generation of Underwriting Notes & Directives
- Promote ‘best practice’ underwriting process to minimise underwriting operational risk for Financial Lines (including FIPI, D&O & Cyber)
- General Technical support to Financial Lines Underwriters
- Provide guidance on technically complex quotes and renewals and ensure quality control in respect of SHA underwriting standards
- Asist Financial Lines Business Head in the review of the line of business underwriting guidelines to evaluate appropriateness of key controls and process & rationale of risk assessment, risk selection and rating.
- Respond to queries on wordings and sign off all non-standard wordings
- Research and Development on new products as required
- Build and maintain a Knowledge Centre and produce material for regular distribution to the greater business.
- Sign off of risks in accordance with Authority Matrix

**Compliance/Regulatory**:

- General Technical Underwriting Support
- Have knowledge of industry regulations and minimum standards to ensure compliance with the regulations and SHA’s underwriting control standards and protocols

**Governance & Risk Management**:

- Support Executive Head: Technical & Governance in:

- Treaty Compliance
- Operationalizing of underwriting governance requirements and related assurance activities

**Reinsurance**:

- Ensure appropriate reinsurance protection in close liaison with Underwriters that quantitatively and qualitatively supports underwriting operations
- Support Underwriters with Treaty Special Acceptances, Facultative transactions and reinsurance queries
- Promote solutions to minimise Risk of exposure to loss aggregation in conjunction with Underwriters

**Conflict of Interest**:

- Adhere to SHA’s Conflicts of Interest policy, alert Management to any potential conflicts of interest and take steps to resolve them promptly

**General Administration**:

- Produce reports when required
- Attend to daily administrative routine tasks in accordance with organisational standards, processes and procedures
- Attend to the typing of general correspondence if and when necessary

**Qualifications and Experience**
- 5 years Underwriting and/or Claims Handling experience in a Casualty Insurance Environment
- Matric
- Legal qualification
- Admitted Attorney
- Must be FAIS compliant
