**Purpose of Position**

Vopak South Africa is a Business Unit of Royal Vopak and aims to build and operate leading independent storage, distribution and throughput terminals in Southern Africa. To achieve this, it needs to execute projects and maintain assets and technology that delivers an attractive value proposition for shareholders and maintains a distinctive competitive advantage. It therefore has included the role of the Technical Manager within its staff establishment as a key driver of the cultural and systematic approach towards achieving excellence in these areas

The key accountabilities of the Technical Manager are to ensure that projects are delivered within budget, schedule and scope, that maintenance is completed in accordance with all Vopak Group and Business Unit (BU) standards and policies, the maintenance of Engineering standards and processes, the analyses and reporting of root cause analyses of safety critical and incidents affecting operational delivery to targets and strategy, analyses of trends to have a proactive approach to operational excellence and shaping the future fit organisation through OT/IT systems, processes and technology.

The role covers the following areas: Sustaining Capex/Engineering/IT & Terminal Automation/Business Development.

**Tasks & Responsibilities**

**Safety & Sustainability**
- Executes SHEQ policies and procedures for assigned areas and ensures compliance with regulations and standard procedures at VSA to realise the required SHEQ performance and the preservation of permits to operate.
- Drives a proactive safety culture for both staff and contractors through felt leadership and strong focus on leading indicators
- Supports company sustainability roadmap via execution of projects and embedding sustainability/circular thinking in the project/technical/maintenance environment as guided by the VSA sustainability roadmap
- Custodian for ensuring compliance to project governance supporting SHE ambition eg Hazops, PSSRs etc

**Supports Business Unit strategy**
- Drives the safety, growth and service ambition of the company by fostering a culture of maintain/design/build to Vopak standard
- Ensures technology remains best in class/feasible and provides a competitive advantage to VSA
- Supports the company drive to be a digitised and a leading company by constantly encouraging, developing and establishing improvement opportunities
- Ensures that talent pool within areas of accountability are motivated, developed and ready for current challenges and future growth opportunities
- Maintains together with Ops and Tech director alignment of BU technology and project strategy with Vopak’s Accelerate, Grow and Improve vision
- Delivers on goals set by Terminal/BU Masterplan
- Represents BU at Global Asset/Technology forums by
- Providing guidance and support Vopak communities with respect to standards, blueprints and common systems
- Liaising with PMO to align on scale up of new initiatives for wider implementation
- Professional development and exposure of teams
- Sharing lessons learnt, best practices and innovations

**Terminal (Business Unit)
- Masterplan (=Capex+Opex)**
- Consulted on developing and after approval, implementing a terminal business plan and gives direction to and realisation of BU objectives, including a business case for required infrastructure changes with target dates (major milestones).
- Developing and after approval implementing sub-master plans (technical and capital plans) covering asset related areas to the required level of detail

**Technical and Capital Plans**
- Supports developing and implementing the Technical plan and Capex portfolio for VSA to ensure efficient and effective delivery of the Capex portfolio servicing the Business Unit.
- Consulted on defining and, after approval, executing the Capex plan and budget to realize Capex objectives. This is applicable to operating capex (Sustaining Capex, IT/OT Capex, Service Capex) and business development capex

**Sustaining Capex List (including automation technology)**
- Consulted on producing and maintaining a list of selected projects (legal, maintenance & repair, safety, OT etc) and assigning a criticality to the projects to ensure sustaining projects that are fully reviewed and prioritized for further definition and execution.
- Identifying opportunities, issues and problems from both the BU and/or external (legal) developments so that insight into potential projects on sustaining, improving or expanding capex can be provided. This must achieve by fostering a collaborative and supportive culture between reporting teams and the terminal teams especially the internal customers
