**Job Advert Summary**:
The Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (Land Bank) is South Africa’s only specialist agricultural bank established in 1912, the bank’s sole objective is to serve South African commercial and emerging farmers and bring specially designed financial services within their reach. The Land Bank provides financial services that have moved with the times and continues to provide services to agri-business and constantly reviews its offerings to ensure that they match the needs of an industry. As change has swept across the sector in South Africa the socio-economic makeup of agriculture has altered, bringing new entrants from historically disadvantaged backgrounds on to the land, these new farmers, facing the challenges of establishing sustainable agri-businesses across the agricultural value chain, Land Bank has been a commercial lifeline offering appropriately designed financial products that facilitate personal and commercial viability in a sector that is vital to the sustainability of South Africa and its people. Reporting to the Executive: Company Secretary, the focus of this role is to take responsibility for all the company secretarial work for the subsidiary companies of the Land Bank Group and to assist with company secretarial work for the Land Bank Group. The role primarily encompasses the day-to-day administration of Land Bank subsidiaries, and with assisting the Executive: Company Secretary with company secretarial work related to the Group.

**JOB SUMMARY**

To provide environmental due diligence expertise to the Land Bank Operational Divisions of the Bank to enhance sustainable agricultural investments and support the due diligence process for both frontline business as well as PMS.

To coordinate assessments, monitoring and management of environmental and social risks associated with Land Bank’s investments.

**Key Performance Areas**:
**1. Assessment and management of environmental and social risks**
- Conducts environmental and social auditing of farms categorized as A and B.
- Participate in Credit meetings, where necessary, to validate E&S due diligence and necessary E&S clauses to be included in clients contracts

**2. Monitoring of environmental and social risks**
- Conducts field monitoring for E&S compliance
- Produces monitoring reports

**3. Reporting on environmental and social performance**
- Produces environmental and social performance reports for Land Bank and other investors such as World Bank, AfDB, kfw, where necessary.
- Coordinates and collates information required for sustainability reporting**.**

**4. Advise on Environmental and Social Risks and Opportunities**
- Identifies potential environmental and social risks and opportunities.
- Identifies research requirements to address environmental and social risks and to harness opportunities.
- Identifies ESMS training requirements for Land Bank.
- Reviews relevant national legal framework and global sustainability principles and recommends necessary updates in the ESMS and implementation guidelines and tools.

**5. ESS Stakeholder liaison**
- Raises ESMS awareness within Land Bank as well as with external stakeholders
- Coordinates ESS Advisory Committee

**Preferred Minimum Education and Experience**:

- A B.Sc in Environmental Sciences, post graduate qualification in Environmental Management or equivalent.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the development and implementation of Environmental and Social Management systems.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the assessment of company compliance with the WBG performance standards and EHS guidelines
- 3-5 years knowledge of the principles of environmental and social sustainability and agriculture.
- 3 years exposure in terms of Agricultural related environmental projects would be an advantageous as well as the relevant legislative requirements
