Portfolio Leader: Audit

**Job Advert Summary**:
Reporting to the one of the Heads of Audit, the Portfolio Leader: Audit is responsible for leading implementation and monitoring of the strategy at portfolio level through inspirational and ethical leadership consistent with the vision of the company and its Constitutional mandate. Participate in the annual strategic plan and the annual budget processes as well as reporting on the annual performance of the organisation.
**Minimum Requirements**:
Education, Experience and Skills
- CA (SA) or ACCA.
- Minimum of 10+ years in an executive leadership role in the auditing environment
- A professional background demonstrating superior leadership ability within the audit / accounting environment.
- Incumbent is required to keep their knowledge up-to-date about auditing practices, standards and significant issues, and establish broad networks of peer contacts internally, locally, and through national and provincial professional associations.
- Demonstrate a professional background with superior leadership ability and ethics.
- A strong track record in client and project management and a capacity to lead and manage audit operations are key.
- A sound understanding of the nature and operations of the public sector, and strong communications skills are vital.
- Seasoned private or public sector management experience in an audit environment; some private sector consulting experience would be an asset.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, manage and inspire others;
- Proven ability and tolerance to problem solve and lead in stressful crisis and emergency situations and environments;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences;
- Strong ability to analyze and interpret complex data and arrive at sound business decisions;
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information;
- Customer focus, action and results oriented, ethics and values, integrity and trust, teamwork, leadership, negotiation and communication.
- Ability to influence and persuade at all levels within an organization, including outside of direct reporting lines;
- Strong business focus and acumen;
- Vision and ability to integrate and leverage the various parts of the organization; building capability for the future, rationalizing and consolidating as necessary;

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
Strategic imperatives:
- Drive implementation of sub-strategies and/or strategic initiatives whilst ensuring alignment to the overall strategy, and play an active role in monitoring them and ensuring they are implemented in an effective and efficient manner by business unit leadership.
- Gain an understanding of the organization and participate fully in all strategic deliberations;
- Help to communicate and uphold the organization’s values and ensure that they come through in all key initiatives and finance-oriented decisions.
Portfolio Leadership Responsibilities:
- Public auditing responsibility and final accountability/sign-off of the relevant audit reports as delegated by article 20 of the public audit act for specific strategic and high risk audits;
- Ensure an awareness of environmental trends and issues related to their BU through BU specific environmental scans.
- Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of strategic initiatives within the portfolio to achieve business outcomes and targets including but not limited to quality of audits etc.
- Continuous strategic alignment conversations with the different leadership team and the broader organisation
- Monitor the implementation of the strategy, elevate challenges that might impact the bigger organisation, put in place corrective actions and ensure that the objectives of the strategy are achieved.
- Monitor the revenue and expenditure (including Billings and Collections) for the portfolio and individual Audits against the budgets, deal with exceptions and oversee the implementation of corrective action promptly.
- Ensure that the business unit budgets are aligned with the overall organisational principles and guidelines, and manage BU specific procurement within budget and the guidelines provided by Finance BU.
Relationship Management Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for stakeholder relationship internally and externally;
- Monitor the implementation of targeted engagements with key stakeholders in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the organisation.
