**Job Summary**

The incumbent, reporting to the Provincial Medical Manager and working closely alongside medical officers, will be expected to provide expert nursing care, support to nursing staff and to be proactive in monitoring superior level diagnosis and treatment of all patients in care at AHF- supported clinics. The incumbent must monitor all clinical programmes in AHF- supported sites and lead the nursing team in the identification of opportunities for improvement and in the development of quality improvement plans in all global health strategies in HAST. They will also be required to report to senior management regarding quality clinical initiatives and programmes within the province.

**Duties and Key performance areas include**:

- Directly supervise and manage AHF nursing staff at sites within the area/district/sub-district to which he/she (nurse mentor) is allocated.
- Participate in an integrated approach to strategic and operational planning together with other members of the roving health team.
- Mentor professional nurses (and enrolled nurses where required) at AHF-supported facilities on Nurse-Initiated-Management of HIV (NIMART).
- Monitor performance of TB/HIV/PMTCT programmes at AHF--supported sites and provide mentorship and technical support to improve performance.
- Ensure that all programme categories are trained and updated on all PHC applicable guidelines to ensure we optimize patient health outcomes and programme performance.
- Mentors nursing staff to achieve clinical care competencies as well as documenting all individual clinical assessment plans and reports.
- Participates in nursing staff orientation.
- In collaboration with clinic managers, HAST programme managers from government and other supporting partners within a facility, agree on site-specific mentoring and training plans. Identify training needs for nurses and helps prepare, implement and monitor annual training plans
- Ensures that all nurses adhere to treatment guidelines as well as SOPs
- Develop, implement, monitor and review clinical programme SOPs in accordance with the AHF and DoH policy framework.
- Facilitate and conduct clinical governance activities, including clinical chart audits and mortality reviews, and adopt a quality improvement approach to improve health outcomes.
- Attendance and active participation in nerve centre and partner meetings.
- Identify gaps within the health system and implement and monitor quality improvement projects and initiatives within the programme.
- In collaboration with the medical officers, preventions and M&E teams, participate and lead QI initiatives as prescribed by AHF and the government (Chart Audits, Site Assessments, Client Satisfaction Surveys, National Core Standards, Ideal Clinic Initiative, Optimum Retention Initiative, Food for Health, etc.).
- Ensure decongestion strategies are implemented and maintained in all AHF supported sites. Facilitate DMOC strategies, including maximizing enrolment of patients onto CCMDD, SFLA and multi-month dispensing, etc.
- Coordinate special projects and health promotion in line with the programme goals of the health calendar within AHF and NDoH.
- Promotes collaboration and teamwork, good interpersonal and working relationships and communication among AHF, government and other partners’ staff at all healthcare settings.
- Identification of capital and equipment resource needs and ensure effective budget planning, initiation and monitoring of procurement for AHF supported sites.
- Ensure the facilities complies with all AHF and DoH reporting tools and timely submission of all reports to the relevant bodies.
- Ensure that AHF supported sites in collaboration with the facility manager strives in all its programmes to reach targets set in global strategies in HAST.
- Collaborate with the preventions team and support the implementation of the community-based outreach programmes/services in case finding and retention in care strategies for all AHF supported sites.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as necessary (i.e., assisting the nursing staff at times of critical need)
- **General duties are**:

- General day to day supervision and management of nurses, as well as support to the clinical and non-clinical teams, and collaboration with all roving team members
- Participate in team de-briefing sessions, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual meetings.
- Presentation on monitored HAST programme performance on all required platforms.
- Ensure quality clinical care programmes are implemented and maintained.
- Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

**Supervisory Responsibilities**:

- Provides guidance, supervisory support and general management to allocated nursing staff.
- Ensures that the clinical staff have staff have all the information and clinical support that they need.
