Duties/Pligte- Imaging of patients, including acquiring, processing, quality controlling, recording, and backing up patient data.- Basic operation and administration of NII IT systems, including picture archiving and communication system (PACS), and the booking calendar.- Performing in-vitro (non-imaging) nuclear medicine procedures and tests on biological specimens.- Scheduling and managing workflows around patient scanning.- Advising and assisting with the optimisation of patient preparation, and explaining test procedures and safety precautions to patients, escorts, and researchers.- Patient care, including interviewing, conducting weight and height measurements, blood pressure measurement, blood glucose determination, general monitoring,

intravenous catherisation, performing urinary pregnancy tests, and blood sampling.Managing consumables, including ordering, stock control and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals.- Calculating, measuring and recording radiopharmaceutical doses received, used, and disposed of.- Administration (including intravenous administration) of radiopharmaceuticals, intravenous contrast media, and adjunct medications under supervision of the NII

nuclear medicine specialist.Under supervision of the NII radiopharmacist, performing and assisting with radiopharmaceutical syntheses and other radiopharmacy duties.- Working under the supervision of the senior NII radiographer to achieve effective teamwork with all staff in the NII.- Administrative tasks, including developing and managing the Unit¿s protocols and standard operating procedures, assisting reception staff with respect to bookings

and booking records, keeping detailed records of patient, imaging, and financial data, and assisting in the auditing thereof.Practicing strict infection control and radioprotection measures, as required.- Assisting in care of equipment, including managing a quality assurance programme, performing necessary QC checks and calibrations, organising a maintenance

schedule, reporting faults, liaising with service staff and/or the medical physicist.Assisting with general day-to-day operations of the NII, effectively interacting with other members of the NII team, NII clients, research participants, and clinical

patients.Facilitating research at the NII, including assisting researchers in the development and implementation of PET/CT acquisition protocols, advising on the optimal

scan preparation of research participants, and implementingf activities required by research protocols.Supervising and training staff and students at the NII.- Interacting with staff of the adjoining Western Cape Academic PET-CT Centre as necessary.- Contributing towards clinical service provision by the Tygerberg Hospital Division of Nuclear Medicine.- Reporting to the senior nuclear medicine radiographer as well as to the Director of the NII.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes- Registration as a nuclear medicine radiographer with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.- Appropriate professional qualification(s).- Experience working as a radiographer in a PET-CT centre.- The ability and willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of a new position.- The ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including to stand and walk, to bend and stretch, to assist patients to and from chairs and trolleys, and to

handle heavy equipment and accessories.Accurate colour vision and good hearing.- Professional conduct, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling- Skills or experience peripheral to radiography, but applicable to the operations of a clinical and research PET/CT facility may be advantageous.
