**What will you do as an Environmental Advisor (LNG)?**

As an Environmental Advisor (LNG) the overall responsibilities of this position are to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, codes, and standards; and, together with selected contractors, to execute environmental permitting plans associated with greenfield projects for Vopak South Africa.

**What do we expect from you as a Environmental Advisor (LNG)?**
- A Post Graduate/Honours Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or equivalent
- Must be a seasoned Environmental Practitioner/Professional with well-grounded industry experience of minimum 10 years proven specialized experience in the environmental permitting and management processes and at least 5 years of experience working in a similar position
- Recognized Environmental and Sustainability training & experience
- Registration with a professional association (SACNASP, NACA or equivalent)
- Knowledge of legal systems such as SAAELIP, NAIES, LDAR, Hazmat and Pollution response and others
- Active exposure to emergency response e.g. Fire and Rescue, First Aid/BAA/BLS response, High Angle Rope Access Rescuer, would be advantageous
- Ability to travel regionally and internationally

**What does your day look like?**

Some of the operational elements of the Environmental Advisor (LNG) include:

- Ensuring that the project and its design meet its own and statutory requirements and obligations in the areas of safety, health, environment, Quality and Sustainability. Compliance with Legislation & Regulations is central to this position and is therefore imperative that this is the most important core value
- Coordinating, driving and monitoring compliance with policies and procedures to ensure compliance with these standards and continuous improvements. Interact with and report on SHEQ & Sustainability to the relevant authorities, Vopak Management and Corporate representatives.
- Develop means of safely controlling of projects, operating tasks, maintenance, demolition, remediation, construction, and similar work activities that may pose a risk to people, environment, assets and business reputation through effective leadership, governance, verification, facilitating and engaging approach to drive and develop a culture of ownership for environment and sustainability.

**Your core responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following**:

- Ensure that the design is in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and standards
- Drive the process of environmental permits of assigned projects
- Develops project scopes of work for consultants and contractors and assists in the selection of qualified consultants and contractors in coordination with other departments
- With input from the SHEQ Manager, develops and implements permitting strategies for projects
- Actively participates in permitting, compliance, and enforcement negotiations with regulatory authorities including but not limited to developing and presenting corrective and preventive action plans; negotiating settlement terms; and negotiating permit terms and conditions
- Develops and implements alternative operational plans to minimize emissions under upset and maintenance conditions
- Acts as primary Company representative or may provide support for other staff during regulatory compliance audits by customers, site’s Risk Management Plan (RMP) program, government agencies, Company global or division representatives, and/or other third parties
