Data Analyst

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

You will be responsible for analysing data across all brands, business units, systems, databases, processes and departments within the PEPKOR Group. Your expertise will mainly be utilised to acquire, manage, manipulate, and analyse data, and report the results in meaningful and impactful ways to the business. The data analytics will be used to identify trends, manage business and financial risk, identify and prevent fraud, improve business processes, support the internal audit continuous auditing strategy, and provide insights for decision making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Data Extraction
- Define data requirements that would meet the specific needs of an internal audit project or business problem or opportunity.
- Use analytic and / or data extraction tools to draw, combine and analyse data across the corporate systems, databases, processes and departments.
- Translates, merges, cleans up and / or maps data into conceptual, logical and physical data models.
- Familiarity with basic statistical methods such as standard deviation and linear regression, as well as visualisation methods such as scatter plots, time course plots/analysis and the use of percentiles for descriptive analysis.
- Knowledge of fraud discovery methods such as Benford’s Law.
- All activities related to data cleansing, data quality and data consolidation using industry standards and processes.

Data and Analytical Presentation and Recommendations
- Reporting on information retrieved and analysed, providing deeper insight into trends, risks, exceptions and business problems, and providing solutions where applicable.
- Researching and proactively offering suggestions on data and end-result presentation.
- Create and present quality dashboards.
- Generate routine and ad hoc reports.
- Support the internal audit teams in the business in terms of information needs, risk identification, determining the scope of internal audit work, and identifying potential fraud.
- Work closely with the different internal audit teams to assist in the development of sustainable analytical procedures to support the continuous auditing strategy.

JOB INCUMBENT REQUIREMENTS
- Relevant Bachelor's degree with experience in any of the following fields: statistics, mathematics, programming, accounting, computer or business science.
- 3 - 5 years working experience in a relevant field.
- Fluency in a programming language (R, Python, SQL, JavaScript).
- Advanced computer literacy skills, the use of data extraction tools, analytical tools and presentation tools.
- A background in business or data analysis or Internal Auditing would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of statistical methodologies and techniques.
- A mínimal amount of travel may be required on an ad-hoc basis.
- Competencies required: Excellent problem assessment, numeracy and analytical thinking, decision making, communication, interpersonal skills, agility to adapt to change, and a self-driven team player who is results orientated.
