Health and Safety Officer

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Implementation, documentation, maintenance, monitoring & measuring of the Health, Safety & Environmental Management system
2. Regularly review & update the Safety, Health & Environmental Plan, Policies, Procedures & company manuals, and provide training on same as/when required
3. Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) analysis, implementation, monitoring, regular update, & the corrective / preventive actions thereof
4. Compilation of new & updates to existing safe work documents and procedures to be current & in line with latest safety requirements and legislations
5. Incident & Accident investigation, recording & reporting
6. Ensure internal emergency teams are periodically trained & legally appointed.
7. Daily, active and frequent workplace Health & Safety inspections, reporting thereof to relevant HOD, overseeing corrective / preventive action of any concerns raised
8. Co-ordinate, chair, & minute the various Health & Safety and emergency team related meetings on a regular basis
9. Ensure all safety training needs are identified, co-ordinated, recorded & implemented
10. Conducting Health & Safety related induction training for all new employees
11. Compile Health & Safety Training material & conduct in-house training for employees where applicable
12. Document & maintain a training & skills matrix for all health & safety related training
13. Compile, co-ordinate and distribute monthly health and safety toolbox talks
14. Ensure all Health & Safety applicable legal appointments are documented, issued, signed & maintained on record, with periodic updates as/where necessary
15. Ensure all contractors are screened and inducted for compliance to minimum Health & Safety requirements & comply with the Company’s Health & Safety specifications.
16. Conducting & reporting on internal & external Safety, Health & Environmental related audits; & co-ordinating corrective actions / close out of findings from same
17. Ensure compliance with all aspects of the Occupational Health & Safety Act as & where it applies to Process Automation business operations
18. Ensure compliance with COIDA (Compensation for Occupational Injuries & Diseases ACT) and Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA) insurance processes
19. Regular awareness & update of, & compliance with, health & safety legislation & legal requirements.
20. Effective liaison between Management & Staff on all health & safety matters.
21. Monitoring & co-ordinating employees H&S medicals & training
22. Monitoring, measuring & recording of company health & safety statistics; reporting any concerns/deviations to Management; overseeing that corrective actions are implemented
23. Planned task observations, safety behaviour observations, & near miss observations in the workplace and in Production / Operations areas, to ensure safe work compliance in operational / production work tasks
24. Frequent daily monitoring of Production and Operations plant, equipment, machinery & operators (walk throughs and observations frequently, on a daily basis)
25. Random inspections on the Production / Operations floor and random review and verification of equipment and tool checklists, inspections and associated records
26. Co-ordinating and facilitating with external service providers for all compliance inspections, assessments, services and maintenance (eg: lifting equipment, fire safety equipment, etc) and maintain records of same
27. Managing, implementing & facilitating Health, Safety, & Environmental compliance of the business
28. Daily issuing of PPE, managing issuing records, PPE stock levels and purchases.
**QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE**:
1. Grade 12 / Matric (minimum requirement)
2. SAMTRAC / NEBOSH or equivalent qualification (minimum requirement)
3. Basic certificates in OHS Act / HIRA / Incident Investigator / Legal liability (advantageous)
4. ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management systems (advantageous)
5. - **Intermediate level**
- **Minimum 2-3 years work experience as a Health & Safety Officer**
7. COVID-19 fully vaccinated (minimum requirement)
