Foreman: Carpentry

**The Infrastructure and Engineering Department** plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and improvement of the University’s infrastructure. We seek to employ a skilled, knowledgeable and resourceful individual.
**Reporting to the Manager: Maintenance** the appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to the below and execution of the following tasks:
- Pro-active planning, organizing, allocating, controlling and monitoring of the Carpentry Section’s resources to ensure timeous and adequate responses to service requests;
- Execution of the section’s objectives and implementation of policies e.g. SHE, quality control, procurement, cost management.
- Addressing of operational issues, troubleshooting, resolving problems and submitting reports / business cases to address issues /risks / incidents
- Providing of timeous feedback on incidents / issues / risks
- Providing weekly / monthly / quarterly operational reports
- Monitoring, requesting and replacing of equipment / assets
- Monitoring and enforcing the dress code, time-keeping and attendance as per UWC policies and standards
- Coordinating planned maintenance & project tasks with other stakeholders
- Defining and updating parts and equipment specifications
- Coordinate team activities ( in house staff, contractors and consultants)
- Maintain professionalism with all UWC stakeholders.
- Ensure effective Financial Management and reporting
- Keep up to date with technology with a focus on sustainability
**Minimum Requirements**
**Consequently you essentially require**:
- Senior certificate
- Completed Trade Test certificate
- Completed 3 year Apprenticeship
- 5 years’ experience, with 2 years proven supervisory experience.
- Basic computer literacy in MS-Word and Excel.
- A valid drivers’ license (with two years driving experience)
- Superior planning and organisational skills
- Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
- Good knowledge of compliance requirements and standards (ISO, SANS, GMR etc.)
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work under pressure with adherence to deadlines
- Ability to work without supervision.
