Our client is searching for a passionate and experienced Fresh Produce General Manager to oversee operations in fresh produce production and distribution. We are looking for a leader who can champion small-scale farmers by expanding their access to new markets and ensuring fair distribution opportunities. This role will require a focus on optimising operations to improve production efficiency, minimise waste, and drive profitability while upholding the Trust's mission. A key aspect of the role will be maintaining a consistent and high-quality supply chain that meets evolving market demands, ensuring the delivery of fresh produce that aligns with industry standards.

The Fresh Produce General Manager will also play a vital role in fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, including farmers, market players, and leadership, to create shared value and drive success. Additionally, this role involves cultivating a positive workplace culture that promotes innovation, collaboration, and high performance. Success in this position will require a hands-on approach, a strong understanding of fresh produce markets, and a passion for coaching teams to deliver exceptional results.

This opportunity is ideal for a dynamic leader with 5+ years of management experience in produce markets or FMCG food manufacturing, a proven track record in optimising operations, and a strong grasp of financial controls. Proficiency in English is essential, with additional fluency in isiZulu considered an advantage. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing / production / a business-related field, ideally with an emphasis on FMCG food technology and production processes
  • Further technical / commercial qualifications would be advantageous
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years' leadership experience in FMCG food production
  • Proven ability to implement best-in-class manufacturing practices
  • Fluent in English (isiZulu proficiency is an advantage)
  • Strong financial management and control skills
  • Experience with software linking distribution operations and retail outlets (e.g., inventory management) is beneficial
  • Valid driver's license
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strategic Leadership and Business Growth: Drive the development and execution of long-term growth strategies to increase market share and explore new product opportunities, while building key partnerships and securing investment for expansion.
  • Operational Oversight and Process Improvement: Ensure efficient manufacturing and distribution operations by optimizing workflows, implementing systems for quality control and proactively addressing any risks or performance gaps.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to industry and legal standards, ensuring that all products meet required quality levels and regulatory compliance, addressing any issues of non-compliance promptly.
  • Financial and Cost Management: Manage and monitor budgets to ensure cost efficiency, propose savings measures and ensure the financial health of operations through effective cost control across all areas.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong relationships with internal teams, external partners and suppliers, ensuring alignment with business goals and supporting regional and marketing initiatives to drive growth.
