Position Overview

As a Senior Project Co-ordinator for SME Finance Readiness, you will play a key role in the strengthening of SMEs financial management systems, making them more robust and efficient.

You will help SMEs build a strong financial track record, improving their access to investment opportunities and financing.

This means you will maintain strong relationships and collaborate with key stakeholders, manage financial due diligence, and provide financial guidance to ensure the accuracy and reliability of SMEs financial data.

Your insights will be crucial in guiding SMEs towards securing the necessary capital to grow and succeed.

Your goal will be to educate and support our SMEs with financial proposals, provide training, basic business analysis, and ecosystem management.

Who are we looking for?

An individual who has experience in bookkeeping, accounting, and review of financial statements of small to medium businesses. The role requires experience in business growth strategies and strong analytical abilities. Great interpersonal skills are essential as relationship development and management will be required. The ideal candidate will have strong numerical skills and communicate technical information in layman's terms. Able to think abstractly, be influential, innovative and problem-solve. An individual with strong project management skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a team.

Additional preferences

  • Have a strong understanding of what investors look for, including risk assessment and valuation.
  • Hands-on experience in preparing SMEs for financing (e.g., funding rounds, grant applications, or bank financing).
  • Is knowledgeable about various funding options, from grants to venture capital and private equity.

What will you do:

  1. Facilitate in scoping and co-ordination of financial due diligences for the SMEs.
  2. Ensure SMEs have an accurate financial record (historical and current) with a strong focus on transparency.
  3. Ensure SMEs are well-matched with appropriate external accountants or bookkeepers to assist SMEs in establishing a financial management function.
  4. Provide analysis, advice and support in enhancing SMEs understanding of their financial data.
  5. Train and guide SME owners to improve their financial management skills and empower them for long-term success.
  6. Provide support for SME deal identification and origination and maintain the data room.
  7. Review and finalisation of pitch decks, transaction documentation and presentations for Investment Committee review with support of the manager.
  8. Facilitate deal flow meetings between SMEs on Fetola Accelerators and Alumni and current investors that have various funding solutions and maintain CRM database of these stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Financial Management, Financial Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, financial analysis or related roles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and valuation techniques.
  • Technically proficient (Advanced) in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AI tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Passion for entrepreneurship / entrepreneurial development and supporting entrepreneurial ecosystems.
  • An internal / external auditing, articles, corporate finance background is advantageous.
  • Multilingual (Greatly advantageous if you can speak at least three South African languages).
