We are looking to recruit an Engagement Manager into our Cape Town office to support the procurement and delivery of both short- and long-term strategic and management consultant assignments. This individual will be located within our Transport Practice, but their work may cut across more than one practice area and may span several geographies. While the role will primarily centre around delivery, it is expected that the individual will also provide support to various business development initiatives in the Middle East and Africa. Although based out of Pegasys' Cape Town office, the individual must be prepared to spend considerable time travelling to and working on projects and initiatives in the Middle East and Africa region.

Duties and Responsibilities

The position will entail working with a diverse range of clients, in both public and private sector, assisting them to solve their most pressing strategic, organisational, and operational challenges. This will encompass duties and responsibilities typical to a multidisciplinary and cross-cutting strategy and management consulting role. This will include, but not be limited to:

  • Understanding and defining client problems, and developing hypotheses and methodologies to identify solutions, working collaboratively with clients and stakeholders;
  • Leading and/or coordinating quantitative and qualitative research and analysis to characterise, present, and motivate appropriate solution options;
  • Leading and/or coordinating the development of high-quality project collateral and deliverables, including slide decks and reports, and analytical tools and models;
  • Leading and/or facilitating discussions, workshops, and engagements with clients and stakeholders to explore options, present findings, elaborate on recommendations, and iterate towards final solutions;
  • Establishing, cultivating, and maintaining strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners, to understand and respond to their immediate and longer-term needs;
  • Managing cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams tackling complex projects which may incorporate technical, legal, economic, financial, commercial, social, and/or environmental challenges;
  • Managing subcontractors, including overseeing the delivery of high-quality deliverables by these parties;
  • Managing and mentoring junior staff members;
  • Making active contributions towards business growth, through developing and implementing business development strategies, building on current project work and client relationships, establishing new relationships with potential clients and partners, and the preparation and presentation of high-quality proposals;
  • Keeping abreast of relevant trends and best practices in the broader space, and developing knowledge products on topics in the sectors that Pegasys works in;
  • Contributing to practice and company-wide strategic initiatives.

Required Qualifications
  • At least an undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
  • 5-7 years of working in generalist and multi-disciplinary consultancy and/or business advisory.
  • Experience in managing and delivering consulting assignments and comfort with client and contract management.
  • Comfort with undertaking, and guiding colleagues and subconsultants in, the delivery of quantitative and qualitative analysis to inform proposals and recommendations to clients.
Advantageous Qualifications
  • Postgraduate qualifications and/or professional associations.
  • Experience in / familiarity with the transport sector.
  • Experience of managing and delivering consultancy assignments in the public sector.
  • Experience of working in the Middle East and/or Africa.

Experience in developing and driving business development initiatives, particularly in novel fields and geographies.
