Role Purpose

The Senior Technician – Rotating Equipment Services plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and longevity of critical rotating machinery across various industries. This position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and optimizing equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and gearboxes to enhance operational efficiency and minimize downtime.

With a strong focus on creating value for the client, the Senior Technician applies technical expertise, data-driven diagnostics, and innovative problem-solving to deliver cost-effective and sustainable solutions. By proactively identifying potential failures and implementing corrective actions, the role contributes to reducing maintenance costs, improving safety, and increasing asset availability.

In addition to hands-on technical work, the Senior Technician provides leadership and mentorship, guiding junior technicians and ensuring compliance with industry best practices, safety standards, and quality procedures. By fostering strong client relationships and understanding their unique operational challenges, the role ensures that Sebenzana Pty Ltd remains a trusted partner in rotating equipment services.

Business Directive
  1. Measure customer feedback on service quality, responsiveness, and problem resolution.
  2. Engineering and technical support during outages and repair. Track uptime improvements for client assets post-maintenance or intervention.
  3. Assess reductions in operational costs due to preventive maintenance, condition monitoring, and optimized repairs.
  4. Track the revenue generated from services, including maintenance contracts, repairs, and condition monitoring solutions.
  5. Measure efficiency in completing projects within agreed timelines, reducing downtime for clients.
  6. Evaluate repeat business and client loyalty based on service effectiveness.
  7. Number of safety incidents, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with industry regulations.
  8. Measure productivity by tracking the number of service calls or projects completed.
  9. Ensure continuous skill enhancement for team members. Provision of training on turbines and generators.
  10. Develop innovative solutions to rotating equipment challenges that align with client objectives, focusing on efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
  11. Understand client needs and requirements, ensuring that solutions are tailored to their specific operational challenges.
  12. Provide regular updates to clients on project progress, addressing any concerns and ensuring high levels of client satisfaction.
  13. Oversee the implementation of mechanical systems, ensuring they meet design specifications and performance standards.
  14. Analyze the performance of existing mechanical systems and high-value assets, identifying areas for improvement.
  15. Implement strategies to enhance asset performance, reduce downtime, and increase energy efficiency, contributing to cost savings and improved operational outcomes.
  16. Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring that financial resources are used effectively and that projects are completed within budget.
  17. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or project outcomes.
  18. Ensure that all mechanical engineering rotating equipment standards are upheld to industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  19. Work closely with multidisciplinary SMEs including electrical engineering experts, control & instrumentation experts, process engineering experts, and operations teams, to ensure seamless support to the client.
  20. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to senior engineers and junior engineers.
  21. Stay updated on the latest trends, standards, and technologies in the industry in order to implement innovative solutions that drive continuous improvement in maintenance and project execution and asset performance.
  22. Candidate must be able to travel locally and internationally.
Requirements
  • BEng or BSc Degree or equivalent in electrical/mechanical engineering.
  • Professionally registered engineer certification will be advantageous.
  • >= 15 years of rotating equipment industry experience with a track record in solving complex problems on various types of rotating equipment sets such as steam turbines, gas turbines, pumps, compressors, and reciprocating engines.
  • Proven track record in effective problem-solving capability within the various industries through project references.
  • Extensive experience in rotordynamics and vibrations.
  • Experienced in rotating equipment design and engineering analysis (CAD, FEA etc.).
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis, planning, and reporting.
  • MS Office / Project / Google.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Administrative — Knowledge of administrative and drawing office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
