Data Engineer

This role requires expertise across coredata technologies, including SQL, Talend, AWS, Java, and Python. The ideal candidate is a results-driven, highly self-motivated individual with a passion for data quality, analytics, and exceptional attention to detail. You must have proven experience in building and maintaining reliable and scalable ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) platforms. Our client is looking for someone with a strong analytical mindset to join their team. This is a hands‑on development role operating within a Scrum framework, focused on building and optimizing sophisticated data applications. You will be instrumental in the design, specification, and implementation of complex data solutions. Key Responsibilities Analyze and assemble large, complex data sets that meet business requirements for both internal and external use. Apply best practices to build and continuously improve the in-house data platforms and infrastructure. Identify, re‑design, implement, and optimize internal process improvements to automate manual workflows and enhance data delivery. Provide mid‑level technical contribution to the team responsible for designing and implementing the business's data and analytics platforms. Interface with the core system to gain a thorough working knowledge of the database, data scenarios, and system processes. Assist with operational data processing requirements: Update, improve, and run current ETL (Talend) jobs to process and load data efficiently. Provide technical data support to the Operations team to assist in resolving client queries—running SQL queries to investigate and correct data issues. Investigate and correct breakdowns and inaccuracies within the data process. Identify and implement solutions to prevent future breakdowns or inaccuracies. Identify and implement innovative solutions to automate business processes within the Data and Operational teams to increase efficiency and reduce cost. Document system architectures, data processes, and procedures comprehensively. Utilize new or existing data models for reporting and analytics purposes. Provide mentoring and support functions to junior data team members. Candidate Profile & Technical Environment The job will primarily involve SQL, Talend, AWS, Java, and Python. The ideal candidate will be results-driven, highly self‑motivated, possess a strong passion for data and analytics, be detail‑oriented, and have demonstrated experience in building and maintaining reliable and scalable ETL platforms. Qualifications and Experience University Degree, National Diploma, or equivalent in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Engineering, or another quantitative field. Minimum of 5 years of professional data processing / engineering working experience. Deep knowledge of ETL platforms (Talend / AWS Glue, RDS, etc.). Expert SQL proficiency (ideally MySQL). Programming: Proficient in scripting languages like Python and working knowledge of Java. Expertise in Automation optimization and Performance optimization across data architectures. Strong skills in Data and systems modelling. Excellent written, verbal, and inter‑personal communication skills. Advantageous Skills Deep knowledge of AWS platform offerings (e.g., AWS Glue / Airflow). Experience working with relational / column‑oriented / non‑relational DB architectures. Experience with big data infrastructure, Data‑Ops process and solution engineering, Dimensional data modelling, data warehousing, and data cataloguing. Expert Python knowledge, including ETL using Pandas or similar analytics frameworks and experience with Lambda functions. Machine learning experience and knowledge of data‑mining techniques.
