PBT Group is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our client’s dynamic data team. The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders to design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and cloud-based solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of data engineering principles , data lake management , and cloud technologies (preferably GCP , but Azure or AWS experience will also be considered). Key Skills & Experience 4–8 years’ experience in Data Engineering . Strong SQL skills and experience with data pipeline development . Hands-on experience with GCP (BigQuery, Dataplex) or equivalent cloud platforms (Azure / AWS ). Experience managing Data Lakes , messaging queues , and pub/sub models . Proven ability to optimise, maintain, and scale cloud-based data environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Advantageous Exposure to data orchestration tools and real-time data streaming . Experience with ETL design and data modelling best practices. Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages. Additional Information The role can be based in either Cape Town or Johannesburg . Candidates with strong Azure experience are encouraged to apply — skills are easily transferable to GCP. Immediate availability will be advantageous.
