SENIOR FINANCE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER.3.04 (AD.08.4) Location: Johannesburg, South Africa Organization: Southern Centre for Inequality Studies (SCIS), Wits University Report to: Head of School of Physics Job Description The incumbent will provide effective financial and administrative support for the School of Physics, managing multiple funding sources, financial planning, and ensuring compliance with university policies. Key Responsibilities Financial Management : Plan the School’s budget, manage research incentive grants, advances, subsistence, reimbursements, donations, invoicing, debtors, creditors, procurement, bursaries, stipend payments, and reconcile accounts, journals, audits, petty cash, stores, recoveries and audit control. Administration : Manage school assets, teaching assistant payments, assist with conferences, workshops, functions, events, and meetings with financial, administrative and laboratory facilities staff. Staff Management : Oversee direct subordinates within the school. General : Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, advise academic staff on funding options, and conduct monthly finance meetings with the Head of School and the Faculty Business Manager. Minimum Qualifications / Requirements A BCom degree or equivalent 5 years’ experience in financial roles with administrative management Accounting and financial management skills High level computer literacy (ERP, Excel, Oracle systems) Excellent communication, writing, reporting and negotiation skills Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook Ability to communicate effectively with academic and support staff, students, and external stakeholders People management skills, punctual, deadline driven, proactive, decisive, professional, team‑player, honest, courteous Work effectively, efficiently, and independently with minimal supervision Understanding of Oracle and Business Object systems and the university’s administrative and financial procedures would be advantageous Application Instructions Only applicants who meet the minimum requirements should apply.
