Lay Counsellor

Company Description Innovo Mobile Healthcare focuses on expanding access to healthcare by delivering services through mobile clinics. These clinics provide a wide range of health services directly to schools, communities, and workplaces, ensuring accessibility for underserved and remote areas. Role Description We are seeking a Lay Counsellor for a contract of 3-6 months for our on‑site operations, located in Prieska, Northern Cape. The Lay Counsellor will support clients by providing counselling services, offering psycho‑social assistance, and conducting health screenings. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include client engagement, pre‑ and post‑test counselling, health education, administration, and providing referral services when required. The role will also involve assisting with mobilisation efforts to ensure community awareness and participation in health services. Qualifications Matric or an equivalent NQF qualification A degree in Social Sciences and/or an accredited Counsellor Qualification Proficient in Afrikaans and Xhosa (speak, read, write) Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills Previous experience in providing psycho‑social counselling services Experience in providing pre‑ and post‑test counselling services Knowledge of health education and the ability to facilitate health awareness sessions Proficient in data capturing and managing client records accurately and confidentially Ability to work with diverse communities and maintain sensitivity to cultural and individual differences A commitment to promoting equitable access to healthcare Prior experience in healthcare or a related field is advantageous Seniority Level Entry level Employment Type Full‑time Job Function Other Industries Health and Human Services #J-18808-Ljbffr
