Our client, a reputable primary school, is seeking an experienced and dynamic educator to lead its academic department as Head of Department in Soweto, Gauteng, ZA. This leadership role requires a proven ability to inspire and guide teaching staff, uphold high educational standards, and contribute to the overall strategic development of the school. You will be responsible for curriculum development, teacher support, and ensuring a stimulating and effective learning environment for students. Key Responsibilities Leading and managing a team of primary school teachers within a designated department. Overseeing the development, implementation, and review of the school's curriculum and assessment strategies. Ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across all grades within the department. Providing professional development, mentoring, and support to teachers. Conducting regular performance evaluations and providing constructive feedback to staff. Monitoring student progress and implementing interventions to support academic achievement. Collaborating with other departmental heads and school leadership on strategic planning and school improvement initiatives. Managing departmental resources and budget effectively. Upholding the school's ethos, policies, and values. Communicating effectively with parents, students, and staff regarding academic matters. Qualifications A relevant Bachelor's degree in Education (e.g., B.Ed. or PGCE) with a specialization in Primary Education. A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the primary school level. Proven experience in an educational leadership or management role (e.g., Head of Department, Phase Leader). Strong understanding of national curriculum frameworks and assessment requirements. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire and motivate a team of educators. Sound knowledge of child development and effective pedagogical practices. Proficiency in using educational technology and relevant software. A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Registration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) is mandatory.
