Senior Insights Analyst

CHEP City of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa Overview Position Purpose: Proven practitioner, proactively leading in using advanced analytical techniques and tools to uncover context and deep understanding of our complex data, using diverse datasets and reports. Acts as a mentor and role model of insights analytics to build capability throughout the business. Supports leaders by interpreting and communicating crucial insights, to contribute to data-informed decision-making, enabling Brambles to enhance performance, optimise processes, and achieve its strategic objectives. As the Senior Data Analyst, you will lead the technical data analysis and visualisation designs to achieve business outcomes, providing thought leadership to the processes, tools & systems needed, researching, and maintaining best practices. This will include the end-to-end management of end user defects and minor enhancements. This position will develop business solutions from the generation of new demand for data services and the constant modification of the existing suite of business intelligence products and is responsible for the design, development & delivery of scalable Dashboard and Report Visualisations, including the build of pixel perfect reporting, that utilises best practice techniques and processes across APAC. The Senior Data Analyst additionally designs, codes, debugs, tests, documents, trains and supports server-based applications such as SQL & PowerBI consistent with established business requirements and specifications to deliver the highest possible value to the business. Major/Key Accountabilities Working with the business to define & create insight to action (data storytelling) reports / dashboards, proof of concepts and general data analysis/ data profiling for stakeholders across Finance; Sales & Customer Solutions; Operations; Logistics; Marketing and Customer Experience that enable data-based decision making in achieving the region’s KPI’s and financial objectives. Translating business requirements into technical UX & UI designs, building out the logical and conceptual data models and data flows in support of project requirements, guiding stakeholders in appropriate and effective use of data to achieve stated outcomes. Identifies, communicates, and endeavours to resolve data gaps that impact the fulfillment of functional requirements, and provides innovative analytical insights in the delivery of key projects. Works within an agile environment, building products iteratively, and supports change management activities with regard to data analysis & data products to drive adoption and ease of use. Collects and prepares data, partnering with Data Management and IT teams to drive data stewards and identify business data needed to produce and prioritise insights. Conducts detailed data analysis to evaluate business processes and improve features, solutions, tools, and capabilities to enable self-service data consumption. Builds the analytics engine to ensure solutions solve the business problem in the most efficient and interpretable form for business use. Provides technical expertise within PowerBI & SQL applications including Administration, Design, Configuration, Data Migration/Conversion, Modelling, Interfaces, Defect resolution, Deployment and Training. Collaborates with Data Engineer and Data Scientist across projects; contributes to developing a data-driven organisation in terms of structure, systems, style, people resources, and strategy execution within an agile mindset. Experience 5+ years of experience in programming, analytics, business intelligence, or equivalent. Proven experience in developing animated and interactive visualizations. Proven experience in developing & implementing data storytelling techniques using Visualization Tools (PowerBI; Tableau; QuickBI). Experience in designing UI/UX that provides data storytelling visualisation of key insights and prescriptive actions. Experience in establishing PowerBI environments (development, test, acceptance and production). Extensive experience developing data models in PowerBI & SQL. Proven experience in pixel-perfect reporting using SSRS and PowerBI Premium / Embedded. Proven experience using Power Apps & Power Automate as a technical solution to solve business problems. Experience with Confluence; Jira; Bitbucket for Test Management and Version Control (preferred). Experience with SSIS data integration tools (preferred) and building HTML5-based apps with complex interactions with web services (preferred). Experience coding in R or Python (preferred); Experience working with SAP ECC & SAP BW/ Hana & Business Objects (preferred). 5+ years’ experience and deep knowledge of PowerBI (DAX Studio, M-Data Mashup); SSRS; strong SQL skills. Up to 1-year experience using ETL tools (AWS Glue; Informatica; Azure Data Factory; Flat Files; SFTP/SSIS) and data modelling/mining using SQL/NoSQL tools (preferred). Ability to form relationships with key stakeholders and excellent communication and data storytelling skills. Knowledge of Agile Project Management practices; strong data literacy and data translation capabilities; ability to anticipate scenarios for different problems. Qualifications Relevant tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other relevant fields and at least 5 years’ experience in projects and data analytics. Skills and Knowledge Python – can guide others to write clean, reusable, scalable code; build pipelines; automate testing, deployment, and rollback processes for CI/CD. Advanced monitoring, logging and custom tooling; write scripts to interact with cloud APIs including authentication and error handling. System Programming Languages – support development, testing, deployment of cloud-native applications and infrastructure; troubleshoot with senior team members. Networking protocols and design – event-based, OO, functional, multi-tenant, and domain-driven design; understand when to apply which approach. Tooling – SQL and databases; knowledge of Kubernetes and related tools; continuous learning of emerging tools. Systems Thinking – ability to model complex systems and predict impact of changes. Cloud Platforms – working knowledge of AWS and Azure; building cloud-native, secure platforms.
