The System and Network Engineer is responsible for overseeing, managing, and maintaining IT infrastructure across multiple client environments. This role involves providing technical expertise in system and network administration to ensure seamless operation and security of both on‑premises and cloud‑based systems. The System and Network Administrator will manage a broad range of systems, including networking equipment, servers, firewalls, virtualization technologies, and cloud services, and provide comprehensive support to ensure business continuity and optimal performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure, and a variety of firewall technologies, as well as a deep understanding of virtualization platforms such as VMWare. Experience working with remote access tools, monitoring platforms, and ticketing systems is also required. A proactive approach to problem‑solving and a strong capacity for working in a fast‑paced, multi‑client environment are essential. Key Responsibilities Network and System Administration Administer and maintain client network infrastructures, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies from vendors such as Cisco, SonicWall, Palo Alto, Juniper, F5, HP, and Aruba. Manage and maintain server environments, both on‑premises and in the cloud, using Windows Server (2008‑2022) and virtualization technologies such as VMWare and Hyper‑V. Support and administer Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Azure environments, including user management, group policies, and cloud‑based services. Implement and maintain firewalls and VPN solutions such as Cisco AnyConnect, Meraki, SonicWall, and Fortinet to ensure secure remote access and data protection. Security and Compliance Monitor, configure, and manage security protocols, including intrusion detection/prevention systems, firewalls, and anti‑virus solutions. Perform regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and patch management to ensure compliance with security best practices. Work with clients to develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Support and Troubleshooting Provide Level 1 and Level 2 technical support for system, network, and application issues. Use remote management tools to diagnose and resolve issues in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to client operations. Troubleshoot problems across various client environments, ranging from simple desktop issues to complex network problems. Virtualization and Cloud Services Administer VMWare environments, including the installation, configuration, and maintenance of virtual servers. Provide expertise in cloud services, particularly Azure, to support client needs for scalable and resilient infrastructure. Collaboration and Ticket Management Collaborate with internal and external teams to provide effective IT solutions and support. Utilise ticketing systems such as ConnectWise, Kaseya, and ServiceNow to track, manage, and resolve support requests in an organised and timely manner. Ensure proper documentation of all configurations, troubleshooting efforts, and solutions in the ticketing system. Monitoring and Reporting Proactively monitor network and system performance, using monitoring tools to detect and resolve potential issues before they impact client operations. Provide regular reports on system performance, uptime, and security incidents to management and clients. Requirements 3+ years of experience as a System and Network Administrator, with a proven track record of installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting network and data centre technologies. 2+ years of experience in a helpdesk or technical support role, providing frontline support and resolving issues via ticketing systems. Expertise in Microsoft 365, Active Directory and Azure cloud platforms, including advanced user and group management, permissions and cloud services administration. In‑depth knowledge of firewall technologies and VPN solutions such as Cisco AnyConnect, Meraki, SonicWall, and Fortinet, with hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting these systems. Strong proficiency in VMWare and other virtualization platforms, including virtual machine setup, maintenance and performance tuning. Experience managing Windows desktop and server environments (2008‑2022), with a strong understanding of patch management, updates and system hardening. Proficiency with ticketing and remote management tools such as ConnectWise, Kaseya, ServiceNow and other similar platforms. Solid understanding of networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN configurations. Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple client systems simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications Experience with monitoring tools and network management platforms for proactive system maintenance and issue detection. Familiarity with additional virtualization technologies such as Hyper‑V. Strong understanding of disaster recovery planning and implementation. Certification in relevant areas such as Microsoft, Cisco or VMware (e.g., MCSA, CCNA, VCP).
