Position: Principal Metallurgist / Principal Consultant Location : Australia, Canada, South Africa, United Kingdom Role Overview : As a Principal Metallurgist / Principal Consultant, you will be a key member of AMCs industry leading Geometallurgical service offering. Our Geometallurgy team integrates geoscience, geotechnical, metallurgical and environmental information to develop Predictive Geometallurgical models using data science and machine learning. These 3D models are used as an input into problem-solving, value-driven mine planning and strategic optimization of processing, mining, environmental and tailings. They minimize technical and operational risk, delivering value-driven solutions for mining projects. You will use your core skills and operational experiences to identify, validate and curate metallurgical data sets suitable for the development of Predictive Geometallurgical models. Beyond Geometallurgy you will use your core skills in traditional and innovative ways to contributing to due diligence, feasibility studies, and the development of, and projects in AMCs 10x Predictive Diagnostic and Hill of Value Strategy Optimization services. Key Responsibilities : Identify and communicate project metallurgical processes to non-metallurgical team members. Undertake data quality assessment and analysis of metallurgical test work and process plant, incorporating test work meta data. Identify ways to select metallurgical datasets suitable for Geometallurgical modelling. Undertake sample selection and design of metallurgical test work for the improvement of metallurgical knowledge. Contribute to the development of the machine learning based Predictive Geometallurgical service. Identify opportunities and methods for implementation of bespoke Predictive Geometallurgical models within a project. Undertake or contribute to simulation using software such as IES, as required. Collaborate with 10x Predictive Diagnostic and Hill of Value Strategy Optimization teams to identify value drivers and deliver actionable insights. Contribute to mining lead due diligence and feasibility studies. Provide clear and concise recommendations through reports and presentations. Maintain an understanding of emerging technologies and industry trends. Build and nurture professional relationships within the mining and mineral sector. Contribute to the delivery of successful projects, the development of AMC service offerings, and business success. Undertake and communicate metallurgical data quality assessment and analysis. Ask in-depth and innovative questions to aid in development of unique bespoke solutions. Develop the technical understanding of those around you. Stay current with advancements in laboratory test work and processing technology by actively engaging with industry professionals. Contribute to the development of AMCs Geometallurgical service offering, including contributions to and delivery of technical papers. Market AMCs services through ongoing development of your network, targeted client contact, professional memberships, conference presentation and attendance. Support clients undertaking standalone projects in areas you are strong in such as metal accounting, test work supervision and analysis. As required: Undertake high-level due diligence for studies and corporate projects. Support mining focused feasibility studies. Work with the 10x Performance Diagnostic team, developing the service and undertaking reviews. Work with the Hill of Value Strategy Optimization team to identify opportunities, and bottlenecks. Technical Competencies : Proven expertise in mineral processing and hydrometallurgy experience across multiple commodities and styles of mineralization. Experience in research and/or laboratory test work and analysis. Experience in metal accounting. Advanced communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly. Effective collaboration skills within diverse, multidisciplinary teams. Excellent time management and adaptability in a fast-paced consulting environment. Fluency in spoken and written English. Second and subsequent languages advantageous. Strong understanding of: Different geological environments. The Mineral Resource and the Mineral / Ore Reserve estimation cycle. Study development from scoping to definitive feasibility studies. Operational processing practices, operational mining practices, ore handling, stockpile building and reclamation. Advantageous is exposure to: Processing plant simulation software such as IES. Multivariate data analysis and data science. Process mineralogy and geochemistry. Qualifications : Tertiary qualification in any of metallurgy, chemistry, or materials, science or engineering or other related discipline with relevant experience. Post graduate qualifications in a related discipline are desirable. 15 years experience in the mining industry, including research, laboratory, technical or operational roles. AusIMM or equivalent (SAIMM, CIM, SME, IOM) membership or eligibility to apply. Any of, Chartered Professional (CP), or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration and experience as Qualified Person (NI 43-101), or Competent Person (JORC or equivalent) would be advantageous.
