Instrument Mechanician

PURPOSE OF THE JOB : To Provide dedicated technical and operational systems support by delivering optimum availability and reliability of instrumentation equipment and systems to ensure effective and continuously improved operations throughout Western Limb. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: S2/N4 Certificate in Instrumentation or Equivalent is essential Instrumentation Trade Certificate is essential 3 years relevant experience as an Instrumentation Mechanician in a mining environment COMPETENCIES: Understand basic electrical and mechanical engineering principles Demonstrate an understanding of the Principles of Process Control Loops Demonstrate an understanding of basic Programmable Logic Controllers Electrical measuring instruments knowledge Demonstrate an understanding of fault-finding techniques on field instrumentation KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: Repairs, maintains and calibrates instrumentation on the shaft. Maintains all interface junction boxes. Supports and aims to improve current instrumentation. Disseminates best practice in instrumentation aspects. Performs fault finding and carries out repairs on equipment, final control element equipment and pneumatic transfer systems. Provides technical suggestions in solving processing problems. Designs, compiles, converts, debugs or troubleshoots PLC Software programmes. Constructs basic electronic circuits. Identifies critical safety areas that may pose as a high risk. Ensures a stable instrumentation platform for the control solution within area of responsibility. Performs system trouble shooting and hardware problems resolution. Conducts daily checks on instrument readings and perform general maintenance requirements. Maintains and preserves equipment, sensing devices, recorders, process control loops, equipment associated with final control loops, pneumatic transfer systems as well as load cell systems.
