Who we’re looking for The Communications & Public Relations Specialist is a key member of the Betway Africa PR, Comms and CSI Team, supporting the execution of the company’s communication strategy across the African continent. This role encompasses both consumer PR and corporate communications, ensuring consistent messaging, strong media presence, and effective stakeholder engagement across all markets. Why we need you We are looking for a Communications & Public Relations Specialist who can elevate Betway Africa’s brand presence across the continent through strategic, culturally attuned, and impactful communication. What you’ll be doing Key Responsibilities External Communications Manage external communications channels to ensure the right people receive the right information at the right time, in the right way. Assist in implementing public relations plans to enhance Betway’s reputation and visibility. Draft and distribute press releases, articles, and media materials to communicate company updates and initiatives. Support external spokespersons with messaging and briefing documents. Contribute to the development and execution of crisis communication protocols, including drafting holding statements and press releases. Monitor brand exposure and media coverage across South Africa and the Rest of Africa (ROA), providing insights and recommendations. Media Relations Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers. Enhance existing PR agency relationships and collaborate to optimise earned media opportunities. Prepare communication materials such as briefing documents, bios, speeches, and talking points. Support media training and preparation for company spokespeople. Respond to media inquiries in collaboration with senior team members. Stakeholder & Partnership Management Build and foster excellent working relationships across internal business functions to understand requirements and ensure employees remain engaged across departments. Collaborate on sponsorship communications involving key stakeholders, including SA Rugby, PSL, and SA20. Coordinate with PR agencies, service providers, and internal teams to ensure alignment of messaging and initiatives. Partner with the in-house videography team to identify and deliver compelling content opportunities. Reporting & Measurement Manage and deliver comprehensive monthly reporting to the Communications Manager, covering campaign outcomes, media exposure, and key insights. What we’re looking for 4–6 years of experience in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or similar discipline. Strong understanding of marketing, media, and digital communication processes. Proven project coordination and organisational skills. Experience working in high-profile or media-sensitive environments is advantageous. Prior exposure to the sports betting/gambling industry is beneficial. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Proficiency in communication tools, platforms, and software. Existing network of media contacts preferred. Experience working with PR agencies and media houses. Ability to create content for both B2B and B2C audiences. Knowledge of the African sports betting landscape is an advantage. Creative, proactive, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment. Ability to support speaking engagements and events.
