The Reinsurance Outwards team is responsible for the purchase of treaty reinsurance cover for the Group. The Senior Treaty Reinsurance Buyer will work closely with the Head of Reinsurance Outwards on the operational execution of the Group’s reinsurance strategy. The successful applicant will report to the Head of Outwards Reinsurance and will be based at the Santam Head Office in Bellville, Cape Town. JOB DESCRIPTIONThe role of the Senior Treaty Reinsurance Buyer is to assist the Outwards team secure treaty reinsurance coverage, manage programmes, and relationships with internal and external stakeholders. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:• Placement of outwards treaty reinsurance. Secure reinsurance treaty coverage (proportional and non-proportional placements).• Negotiation with reinsurers in respect of reinsurance treaty coverage (including but not limited to cost, capacity, clauses, conditions, and exclusions).• Reinsurance strategy implementation. Participate in Business Unit treaty reinsurance strategy discussions and the implementation thereof.• Reinsurance renewal processes and timelines. Ensure that there is a workable and robust renewal timeline in place for every treaty. Co-ordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure treaties are placed timeously as per agreed renewal mandates and timelines.• Technical reinsurance guidance. Provide internal stakeholders with technical reinsurance guidance in respect of reinsurance treaties in place.• Stakeholder engagement. Build and maintain solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders.• Market intelligence. Analyse and communicate general reinsurance trends What will make you successful in this role? QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE• Minimum Requirements:o Bachelor’s degree in commerce or related fieldo At least 5 years of experience in a reinsurance buying role (Managerial experience advantageous)o Professional qualification in (re)insurance (for example, FCII, FIISA)o Working knowledge of retrocession agreements and Alternative Risk
