Introduction Job Title : Senior Software Tester. Industry : Financial Services. Location : Cape Town. Contract : 6 months (with potential renewal). Summary : We are seeking a highly experienced and meticulous Senior Software Tester to ensure the superior quality and reliability of our financial services software applications. This is a senior role demanding a strong quality assurance mindset, where the primary focus will be on sophisticated manual testing practices. While the candidate must possess an understanding of automation principles to contribute to the overall QA strategy, the day-to-day responsibilities will be centered around manual testing execution, test planning, and defect management. Duties & Responsibilities Design, develop, and execute detailed test plans, test strategies, and test cases for complex financial software systems. Perform thorough manual testing across various testing types, including functional, regression, integration, performance, security, and user acceptance testing (UAT). Lead test analysis and collaborate closely with software developers, business analysts, and product managers to ensure comprehensive requirements coverage and identify potential risk areas. Meticulously identify, document, track, and manage software defects through to resolution, providing clear and concise reporting to stakeholders. Act as a key contributor in project meetings, providing expert insights on testing progress, quality metrics, potential risks, and mitigation strategies. Champion quality assurance best practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the software testing lifecycle (STLC) and team methodologies. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior testers, fostering a culture of quality and excellence within the team. Desired Experience & Qualification A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in software testing, with a significant portion within the Financial Services or a similarly regulated sector (e.g., Banking, Payments, Insurance). Proven expertise in manual testing with a deep understanding of test case design techniques (e.g., boundary value analysis, equivalence partitioning). Must hold the ISTQB Advanced Level Certification (or an equivalent advanced certification). Solid foundational knowledge of programming and scripting languages (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript) to effectively engage with development teams and understand automation frameworks. Demonstrable experience in creating detailed test documentation (Test Plans, Test Cases, Test Summary Reports). Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and root‑cause analysis skills with an uncompromising attention to detail. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to articulate complex issues clearly and collaborate effectively in a cross‑functional team environment. A self‑motivated professional capable of working independently, managing their own workload, and thriving in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting. Desirable Skills : Direct hands‑on experience with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Xray, qTest). Familiarity with financial services regulations, compliance standards, and data security protocols.
