Financial Accountant: SLS: Sanlam Risk

Financial Accountant Who are we? Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) focuses on serving our retail and corporate clients in South Africa and further developing our strategic advantages in the South African market. SLS consists of the following business units: Retail Mass, Corporate, Risk and Savings, Glacier and various business enabling functions. The SLS Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the four clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second‑line defence functions to enable us to meet our business objectives. What will you do? Reporting to the SRS Financial Manager, the Financial Accountant will support the finance operations of the SRS business. The role includes effective cost management within the SLS governance framework, day‑to‑day procure‑to‑pay processes, month‑end income statement and balance sheet reconciliations or analysis, journal processing, credit card reconciliations, compilation of scorecards, capturing of risk schedules and financial losses on the Sanlam Risk management system, and any other financial tasks listed below. Effective cost management and reporting Monthly variance analysis and cost investigations Monthly cost reporting to Business Unit Heads of Departments Budgeting and forecasting Monthly update of HR file and IT MIS report reconciliation to general ledger, with timely variance communication and resolution Rapid resolution of financial enquiries, investigations and problems Ensure effective controls and procedures adhere to the approval framework Administration, planning and organisation of work to ensure successful and on‑time delivery Process journals on SAP, including provisions and accrual transactions Approve payments in accordance with the SRS approval framework on SAP Support business with SAP S4‑Hana, including MDG support for material creation Pro‑active management and control of accounts (GR/IR and Down Payments) Attend to credit card reconciliations Prepare input to yearly budget process and collaborate with Business Heads on required changes Yearly load of new budgets and monthly load of forecast to SAP Report in‑force units and policies Compile quarterly documentation: SRS Scorecard, SRS Risk Register, SRS Financial Losses, SRS Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) report Assist with FCA models and cost allocation investigations when needed Ad hoc tasks and projects Qualifications Relevant financial degree, with accounting as a major subject Experience At least 4 years’ experience in cost management Exposure to SAP S4‑Hana is an advantage Knowledge Sufficient financial services industry knowledge Insurance industry knowledge is an advantage Knowledge of financial reporting and cost management Competencies Communication skills (verbal and written) Financial acumen Decision quality Analytical thinking Innovation cultivation Order and accuracy Planning and alignment Results orientation Customer focus Collaboration Influencing / gaining commitment Independence Resilience Build a successful career with us We are committed to building strong, lasting relationships with our employees.
