PURPOSE/MAIN JOB FUNCTION

The core purpose of the job focuses on design and development of Civil Structural construction project s, such as structural engineering analysis and design for foundation, concrete and steel structures, structural and industrial/office building design, underpasses, retaining walls and other infrastructure structures.

The job requires close liaison with multi-disciplinary project team members including railway infrastructure disciplines, project managers and contractors to ensure that construction projects are designed according to specifications and that they meet structural safety, reliability, and sustainability standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop Civil construction project specifications and designs based on customer requirements and structural engineering design standards.
  • Collaborate with rail infrastructure disciplines, architects, contractors and other construction professionals to ensure that designs are feasible and meet all client project requirements.
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools to create and refine construction project designs. Creating 3D models and animations using CAD and BIM software.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to determine the viability of new designs and construction techniques.
  • Develop and maintain project and contract documentation, including design reports and drawings, and specifications.
  • Ensure that construction projects meet statutory and regulatory requirements and adhere to structural safety, reliability, and sustainability standards.
  • Collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary project team to ensure that construction projects are completed on time, within budget and in compliance with defined quality standards. Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings and make recommendations to senior project management team members.
  • Conduct regular project team meetings and provide guidance and support to the multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Ensure that all project stakeholders are kept informed of project progress and project planning and milestone changes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • BSc/BEng Degree or BTech (Civil). Must provide Certificate with transcript.
  • Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer. Must provide Certificate with registration number.
  • At least 10 years experience
  • Five (5) of the ten (10) years post professional registration (Pr Eng/ Pr Tech Eng) should be in structural engineering analysis and design for foundation, concrete and steel structures, structural and industrial/office building design, underpasses, retaining walls and other infrastructure structures .
  • Excellent design skills.
  • Have a strong technical background in Civil Structural engineering, as well as excellent design and problem-solving skills.
  • Have a good working knowledge of construction implementation processes and standards as well as project management principles.
