Job Title Lecturer / Senior Lecturer Location Johannesburg, ZA Department Political Studies: School of Social Sciences Description The Department of Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand is looking to appoint one (1) new member of academic staff at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. This is a permanent position at the rank of either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (1 position). The Department particularly encourages applications from scholars who have knowledge of, and are prepared to teach in, the Politics of Development and/or Comparative Politics. Candidates at both Lecturer and Senior Lecturer levels should possess a PhD. Candidates with experience in university teaching, supervision of post‑graduate students, and an established publication record will have a strong advantage at both levels. Candidates with an established track record of academic administration and fundraising will have an advantage at the Senior Lecturer level. The Department is committed to making appointments that will contribute to demographic representativeness amongst academic staff, so we are particularly keen to attract candidates who are currently under‑represented in the department. Responsibilities Integrate into the Department’s lifeworld through teaching large and diverse classes in all years of study. Cooperate with colleagues in advancing the objectives of the Department. Contribute actively to the intellectual and administrative life of the Department and University. Requirements PhD in a relevant field. Knowledge and experience in Politics of Development and/or Comparative Politics. Experience in university teaching and postgraduate supervision. Established publication record. For Senior Lecturer level: track record of academic administration and fundraising.
