Project and Reporting Accountant – 6 Months Fixed Term Contract 2026 St John’s College is a world-class Anglican School situated on a magnificent campus in Houghton, Johannesburg, offering quality education from Pre-Primary to Post-Matric. St John’s College is seeking a strategic and detail-orientated Project and Reporting Accountant from January 2026, to serve as the guardian of financial integrity and driver of fiscal excellence for key projects. This pivotal role transforms complex financial data into actionable business intelligence, providing critical analysis that informs the school’s strategic decisions and oversees the financial control of major initiatives, from systems implementation to internal audits. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting and Analysis Create, compile and present all financial reports (Daily, Monthly, Termly & yearly) to the Head of Finance. Analyse financial data to identify trends, variances and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations. Manage the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring alignment with the school’s objectives. Project and Event Financial Management Serve as the financial lead on school events and festivals, managing budgets, tracking costs, and reporting on outcomes. Lead the implementation and ongoing management of financial and management information systems. Plan and conduct internal audits, identify areas for improvement, and lead the implementation of corrective changes. Operational Support and Compliance Provide high-level support to the Finance team on strategic projects and ad-hoc financial analysis. Ensure the accuracy and maintenance of all financial records, both digital and physical. Act as a key point of contact for financial queries, resolving issues promptly and effectively. Carry out any other reasonable requests as directed by the Head of Finance. Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance). 5 years of experience in an accounting or finance role, with exposure to project accounting and reporting. Proven experience in leading change initiatives, such as improvements or stem implementations. Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Evolution), Google Workspace and MS Office. Skills and Behavioural Success Factors Attention to detail: Ability to pay maximum attention to data and be able to spot patterns, errors and ensure accuracy. Problem Solving: Ability to accurately define a problem, identify the root cause of the problem, generate workable solutions for the problem, and select and successfully implement the most appropriate solution to solve the problem. Analytical skills: Demonstrate the ability to analyse data or information and be able to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on the stats. Time Management: Ability to effectively plan/schedule, coordinate and execute own program and work following business priorities. Information Management: Ability to effectively use the information for management purposes, to gather/organize/capture relevant information to support sound decision-making, to correctly extract data from an existing database/MIS, extrapolate data to determine trends and do trends analysis, and to properly and appropriately compile a management report. Verbal, Non-Verbal, and Written Communication skills: Ability to effectively interact with an individual/group, using appropriate verbal, non-verbal or written communication at the required level, and sending out/receiving a clear message in the intended way. Conflict Management: Ability to directly interact with affected parties applying interpersonal skills to defuse anger, identify the root cause of the disagreement between two parties, and to effectively resolve it in a constructive way to promote future cooperation.
