Actuary in Systems & Analytics Team Job Level: Manager / Divisional Manager Location: Sandton head office (3 office days per week, hybrid working model) Department: Product Development Key Purpose The main purpose of this role is to use data science and analytics skills to enhance retention and distribution strategies, improve business processes, identify product opportunities, review product implementation specs, and vet scenarios to ensure that products are implemented as designed and that administrative system values are actuarially sound. Key Output & Key Responsibilities Use data science/analytics skills to optimise business processes, increase new business volumes, and enhance retention and distribution strategies. Develop new innovative product ideas and analyse experience to aid the pricing team. Build MI data visualisation dashboards to support senior management decisions on retention and distribution strategies. Plan for new products, serving as the link between systems and actuarial teams to ensure products are built as required. Review new product specifications and perform implementation actuarial vetting scenarios. Analyse servicing scenarios and identify possible system constraints on product design. Address individual policy queries and issues on an ongoing basis. Assist with ad‑hoc investigations and analyses, including quantifying the financial impact of possible misalignment between actuarial specifications and system implementation. Apply actuarial knowledge to solve non‑standard problems. Competencies Self‑starter able to show initiative and drive projects to completion with guidance. Apply expertise and technology effectively. Analyse data and information rigorously. Create innovative solutions. Work collaboratively with people. Qualifications & Experience Essential Qualified Fellow Actuary or nearly qualified. Proficient in MS Excel. Experience with SQL databases. Experience with statistical software (R and/or Python). Advantageous Data science qualification or experience. Programming experience and understanding (e.g., VBA). Industry experience applying machine learning models in analytics. Previous systems work or software testing/coding experience. 3‑10 years experience in the investment industry/financial services.
