North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus) Faculty/Division: Faculty of Engineering Position Number: P Vacancy: Lecturer Remuneration: Commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with NWU policy guidelines. Employment Type: Permanent The North-West University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position, which forms part of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). Preference will be given to applications from black (African, Coloured and Indian), female and disabled candidates, with a target that at least 80% of applicants should be appointed from these groups. Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age. The nGAP represents the eighth phase of the Staffing South African Universities Framework (SSAUF) approved in 2015 as an initiative to improve the academic staffing capacity of South African universities. The programme aims to address the urgent need to recruit, support, and retain black (African, Coloured and Indian), female academic and disabled staff to contribute to the transformation of the academic staff profile in disciplines of greatest need. Key Responsibilities: Teaching: Preparation of study guides and subject material Delivery of lectures and practical sessions Marking and assessments General module administration Final Year Supervision: Topic selection and general guidance to students Liaising with external clients Frequent project meetings with students Research: Conduct research towards own qualification Supervision of postgraduate students Involvement in professional/academic societies School Administration: Involvement in Engineering Schools Representation on Faculty-specific committees Desired Experience & Qualification: A B.Eng / BSc Eng qualification recognised by ECSA (NQF level 8). An M.Eng in Industrial Engineering OR M.Eng with some industrial engineering exposure (NQF level 9). The master’s degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above. Please attach proof of results in your application. Additional Desirable Competencies: Registerable with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer. Academic experience in an industrial engineering context (teaching assistant, part-time lecturer etc.) Independent research or industry exposure is beneficial. Key Functional Competencies: Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email, and internet. Knowledge of appropriate assessment theory and practice to enhance student performance. Research methodology and technical writing. A proven commitment to teaching and learning, including a willingness to become involved in students’ educational development and wellbeing. Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g., whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the ongoing changing of the learning and collaboration environment. Good interpersonal relations and a client-service orientation. Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU. The ability to function well individually and as part of a team/subject group. Good analytical abilities and innovative thinking, as well as ability to be self-driven. The ability to solve problems independently. Good planning and organizing skills as well as good report writing skills. A high level of professional and ethical conduct.
