CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To be responsible for and oversee the integrity of all metadata-related processes, identifies opportunities for new projects and collaborations to maximize resource discoverability.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  1. Maintains a working knowledge of existing and emerging metadata standards, tools, best practices, and developments in metadata and linked data environment.
  2. Oversees all catalog maintenance activities.
  3. Oversees all database quality control activities.
  4. Assist in the continuing access of electronic information resources.
  5. Performs high level original and copy cataloguing activities to enhance the user discovery experience.
  6. Responsible for loading all Mandela University thesis and dissertations, including all research outputs into appropriate repositories.
  7. Collaborates with Electronic Resources Management department in troubleshooting resource access and discoverability issues.
  8. Monitors external developments and changing needs in Cataloguing and metadata areas.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  1. Experience with the Millennium / SIERRA Cataloguing module.
  2. Experience in analysing and remediating existing metadata to meet current standards.
  3. Experience with the OCLC Worldcat database / WorldShare Records Manager.
  4. An in-depth knowledge of cataloguing and classification standards such as RDA, MARC21, LCSH, LC Classification system, DDC.
  5. Knowledge of BIBFRAME, Dublin Core or other non-MARC metadata schema.
  6. In-depth knowledge of electronic resources cataloguing.
  7. Proven experience in bibliographic and authority control.
  8. Familiarity with institutional repository platforms.
  9. Accuracy and attention to detail.
REQUIREMENTS

M+3 (Bachelors Degree in Library and Information Science).
