Head of Reinsurance An industry-leading company is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Head of Reinsurance to lead its life reinsurance department. This position requires a professional who can implement strategic initiatives, make key recommendations, and ensure compliance and governance. Key Responsibilities:Lead negotiations for reinsurance treaties and risk-sharing arrangements, including structuring, pricing, and terms. Serve as a senior contributor to the company's reinsurance strategy, aligning it with business objectives and risk appetite. Advise executive management on reinsurance structures, market conditions, and various risk transfer options. Analyze reinsurance and risk-sharing portfolios to provide recommendations on risk and profitability management. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and reinsurers to ensure effective communication and execution of reinsurance arrangements. Enforce policies, procedures, and controls for all reinsurance activities. Manage the performance and development of direct reports. Oversee operations in both South Africa and Mauritius. Qualifications and Skills:A degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field is required. A qualified Actuary, CA, or an equivalent qualification is advantageous. At least 7 years of relevant work experience in the life insurance or reinsurance industry. Extensive knowledge of various reinsurance arrangements and structures (e.g., treaty, facultative, quota share, surplus, excess of loss). Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills. Strong analytical, financial, and actuarial modeling skills are essential. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with the ability to balance risk, growth, and cost, and possesses high integrity and strong decision-making skills.
