Our client is seeking to employ a senior level self-motivated tailings engineer with more than 7 years of tailings related experience, in the tailings department, based in Johannesburg or Centurion offices, on a full-time basis. The engineer would contribute to new and existing projects and assist project managers and project directors with surveillance of existing and design of new tailings storage facilities and return water dams. Key responsibilities:Planning and scheduling of projectsCompilation of proposals and appointment of sub-contractors and sub-consultantsSurveillance of tailings storage facilities and return water damsPerforming as and / or assisting the Engineer of Record (EoR) in carrying out annual audit inspections on tailings storage facilities and return water damsTravel to site, predominantly South Africa, Tanzania and West Africa, to conduct site inspections related to monitoring and construction managementDriving and managing the design of new tailings storage facilities, return water dams or associated infrastructure, together with travelling to site to conduct field investigations relevant to the projectPerforming and overseeing stability analysis of various facilities and types of residueTransfer of knowledge and delegating work to a team of graduate, junior and intermediate level engineersShould be able to manage a project and report back to project managers and directorsKeep up with latest developments in the tailings industry and improve knowledge base CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTSMore than 7 years of tailings engineering experienceB Eng or BSc Eng in Civil EngineeringProfessional registration with ECSA or at least at the point of registering imminentlyGood fundamental understanding and knowledge of soil mechanicsGood understanding of the various types of engineering contractsPost graduate experience in geotechnical engineering will be advantageousExperience in CPTu testing and interpretationExperience in geotechnical investigationsExperience in related laboratory testing of soils and tailings materialCandidate should be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint and MS Projects / PrimaVeraCandidate should have experience with slope stability, seepage analysis and FEM software, such as Geostudio.Candidate should be proficient in AutoCad Civil 3D or ModelMakerValid drivers license and passport
