is looking for a junior team member to assist us with our campaigns and organising for climate justice in South Africa. The position is a 6 month, temporary position to provide cover for team members on long leave.

About the South Africa Junior Campaigner/Organiser


The South Africa Junior Campaigner/Organiser is a temporary position to cover for both a senior campaigner and an organiser consecutively.

The position will include implementation of campaign strategy with the support of the South African team as well as reactively responding to enquiries from groups and our target audience.

Supporting individuals and groups through keeping in regular contact with them, connecting them with each other and connecting them to resources.

Success in this position would mean our network of groups is maintained and our campaigns do not lose momentum._ _The South Africa Junior Campaigner/Organiser reports to the South African Team leader, is part of the Africa Regional Team, and 's Global Programme Team.


Duties and Responsibilities

Organising

  • Absorbing potential organisers from 's activities, both offline and online.
  • Responding to enquiries from people to to get involved.
  • Supporting groups to grow and be more strategic and effective through:
  • Access to resources
  • Regular communication
  • In person meetings
  • Working together

Mobilising

  • Coordinating offline events and groups involvement in events.
  • Incorporating groups in campaigns.
  • Empowering groups to support each other.
Supporting groups to hold their own events, and ensuring is able to amplify them.

Implementing campaigns

  • Implementing campaign plans together with the team and groups/partners, by consulting with them, delegating tasks and responsibilities, and coordinating their work.
  • Employ a variety of tactics including collaboration with partners, public campaigning (both offline and online).

Networking

  • Raising the profile of campaigns at regular partner meetings, conferences and events, and through supporting the work of partners. Representing at these events.
  • Nurturing relationships with individuals and organisations in the climate and energy sector in South Africa, as well as complimentary sectors.

Assisting the wider team

  • From time to time, working with the wider African and organisational team on different projects. Presenting our work, representing our perspectives and assisting in the success of colleagues work.
  • Supporting and attending events, including protest actions.

Required Qualifications

  • One year of experience in an advocacy focused organisation.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a climate change or environment related role.
  • Demonstrable interest and passion for environmental justice.
  • Proficiency in online tools such as Google Drive, Slack and Zoom.
  • Drivers licence.
