_VPUU NPC is a Public Benefit Organisation implementing multi-sectoral integrated area based upgrading programmes of neighbourhoods in townships and informal settlements.

This is done in partnership with communities, municipalities, provincial and national government. _

  • We work in an integrated team of community participation, socio economic development, operation and maintenance, spatial planning and design, infrastructure development, and knowledge management towards sustainable urban neighbourhoods.

For our team we are looking for a:

SENIOR RESEARCHER
Up to R CTC per month depending on experience

Fixed term contract until 30 June 2025

Job Purpose:


Plays a key role in the Data Management Team, acting as the first line of support to the Lead: Data Management and the CEO, and being primarily responsible for a foundational methodology to enable a high quality of research and data management processes across the organisation.


Key Performance Areas:

  • Responsible for Data Management Research Production and support to the Data Management team in line with the data management process steps.
  • Responsible to ensure that the Data Management Framework is developed, documented and maintained.
  • Provide design support to data management process development in support of operational requirements for data collection projects
  • Production of written reports in summary and analysis of data collection
  • Support the development of project scopes of work, statements of intent and interim reporting statements
  • Reference the VPUU Theory of Change model in project contexts and provide context with external outcome frameworks, e.g. SDGs.
  • Provide Data Management Lead and CEO with research support across all data management projects
  • Attend Data Management Fortnightly Team Meetings
  • Attend inception meetings of all new Data Collection projects
  • Form part of the strategic DM meetings to ensure new DC projects align to the organisation's vision

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 year's proven work experience as a Researcher
  • Minimum of Master's degree in a relevant field, including (but not limited to) Development Studies, Social Sciences, Development Economics, Urban Design, Politics, Public Health, Criminology or related fields
  • Proven track record of min. 3 years' experience in the field Social Research; Sociology
  • Strong track record of producing highquality publications (guidelines, policy briefs, fact sheet series, case study compilations, etc.)
  • Proven track record in working with public and private sector stakeholders
  • Experience in designing and facilitating joint stakeholder processes in the production process of knowledge products
  • Networks in the relevant fields desirable
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills
  • Research, analytical, writing and editing skills
  • Ability to conduct and analyse qualitative and quantitative research
  • Problemsolving and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to remain flexible so as to meet the demands of the project
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective oral/written communication skills in at least 2 of the following languages: English, isiXhosa,Afrikaans
  • Effective leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent problemsolving ability
  • Knowledge of upgrading of low income neighbourhoods is an advantage
  • Valid driver's licence
