Manager, Marketing MTB (M/F/d)

Job Summary
The Manager, Marketing MTB (SA) works within the EMEA Marketing team and is responsible
for the coordination of strategic overall event marketing and communication programs for
mountain bike events in EMEA, predominantly focusing on South African events, that deliver
participants against budgeted athlete targets and brand growth. The Manager, Marketing MTB
(SA) brings strong marketing acumen, project management skills, creativity, organization,
analytical aptitude, teamwork, and confidence to work with multiple stakeholders and achieve
project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop cohesive strategic marketing plan for South African mountain bike events
(currently Cape Epic and Wines2Whales) to increase brand affinity, market share and
respective event sales targets for The IRONMAN Group South African events in the Epic
Series brand of mountain bike events.

  • Create and implement unique, engaging, and effective eventspecific marketing and
communication plans throughout the year to deliver on-event marketing KPIs.

  • Manage Media Program, which includes riding and nonriding journalists, onsite crew,
media center, media registration and accreditation.

  • Plan and facilitate media buying and creative development for print, radio, out of home
and other traditional media in addition to digital advertising and new media placements,
either through media agencies or direct negotiation.

  • Plan and actively pitch in PR stories to local media in event territories to ensure strong
local PR presence and manage relevant local PR support agencies as required.

  • Manage regional event marketing budget for South African mountain biking events,
measuring, and reporting ROI and efficiency of spends and reporting on forecasted spend
and performance to Senior Manager Marketing MTB.

  • Create onevent marketing plans in alignment with Senior Manager Marketing MTB and
  • Epic Series brand teams and lead onsite implementation of plans at South African events.
  • Manage photography and video production service providers in alignment with Senior
  • Manager Marketing MTB to deliver required creative content to promote events.
  • Work with Specialist, Social Media Epic Series to ensure key marketing moments are
adequately promoted on South African event social media channels, understand
community feedback and ensure that required assets are delivered on time to social media
team for agreed campaigns.

  • Work with operations teams to identify and address opportunities for customer
experience improvement, and work on creative ways to highlight and bring to life the
unique selling proposition of each race.

  • Together with global partnerships team, brainstorm and support strategic marketing
activation opportunities available through event and series partnerships that grow event
revenue, improve customer experience, strengthen brand, and deliver value to partners.

  • Manage, update, and circulate weekly marketing documentation including marketing
plans, opportunities, and challenges for South African mountain bike events.

  • Work as part of a larger marketing team and department to achieve deliverables for
EMEA mountain biking events as a whole.
