Mission/ Core purpose of the Job
Working closely with the MTN Executive Leadership Team and the Opco CEOs, the Executive: Group

1. Mission/ Core purpose of the Job **To take charge of the strategic and technical implementation for IoT/M2M Platforms and Applications and associated business processes to support the Technology Centre of Excellence for Business to Business (B2B). Develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures related to the IoT/M2M Platforms and Applications. Support the planning and budgeting for MTN's IoT/M2M Platforms and Applications to ensure that resources are used to provide best in class ICT services that are in line with organisational growth. Provide strategic input in the compilation of the end-to-end fulfilment (FAB) for ICT services.

2. Context (Global influences, environmental / industry demands, organisational mission etc.)- The MTN Group strategy - Ambition is based on 10 main pillars, including the Platforms one.

  • Based on that, an increased focus is required on Enterprise ICT services and platforms across all MTN Operating Companies.
  • In order to accelerate on this stream, MTN Group ExCo has decided to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to those services.
  • This is not far from what is happening in other Telco groups, like Telefonica or Vodafone.
  • The current allocation has been selected among few options and has been approved from the Executive Steerco that is supervising the programme with the participation of Group and SA Exec's
  • MTN South Africa is establishing a dedicated Technology function to support the MTN Converged ICT services ambitions. It has been agreed that the existing Technology support for the Group Elevated Multinational accounts will be housed within the Enterprise CoE with the Operations, Service Management, Incident and problem management being ring fenced into a dedicated function within Technology B2B CoE organisation.

Key Deliverables

Strategic Input

  • Translate the ICT strategic plan into strategic deliverables linked to IoT/M2M Platforms and Applications.
  • Interpret the integration of CoE ICT platforms into the underlay technology areas (MNS, Mobile etc.) in support of multiservices solutions and propositions to customers combining MNS with IoT, Cloud, UCC, Security, etc.
    Solutions Delivery
  • Master the knowledge of OEM, vendors, and partner landscape and integration services linked to the CoE Platform areas.
  • Provide assistance and technical oversight pertaining to the implementation of new tools, technologies, solutions, and methodologies for the IoT/M2M Platforms and Applications.
  • Determine the impact of best technology solutions against constraints (time, budget, etc.) of the client to create winwin outcome for all stakeholders.
  • Assimilate knowledge of the Architecture and Integration horizontal alignment of the ICT domain and sub domains into the overall CoE Technology Architecture Framework.
  • Combine sound business strategy and knowledge with specific technical knowledge into clear actionable and optimised outputs.
  • Review innovative industry trends and adopt them in customer solutions.
  • Provide suggested solutions and excellent customer experience for endusers.
  • Maintain knowledge of available commercial products within the ITC services function.
  • Compile various types of detailed reports (e.g. functional, strategic, highlevel, periodical progress updates, etc.) aimed at a wide range of audience (e.g. organisational executives, customers, etc.) in the form of consolidated solution documents, costing, and timelines.
    Operational Excellence
  • Develop guiding principles, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) on how to select and provide the best technical solutions related to the IoT/M2M Platforms and Applications.
  • Propose correct and applicable solutions to emerging problem statements in the ICT space related to IoT/M2M Platforms and Applications. Develop functional knowledge of all domains under ICT services (IoT, Cloud and Hosting, Security, UCC, MNS).
    Client Relationships
  • Establish and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Build solid relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Interact with customers at enterprise and executive levels. Lead discussions and advise customers on selecting the best technical solutions for their needs.
    People and Culture
  • Guide and enable the upskilling of the team throughout assigned projects.
