What will your responsibilities include?

The position is part of the Global Service Organisation and will report to the Regional Service Director EMEA with a secondary reporting line to the South African Managing Director. You will oversee the efficient management and supervision of the technical service center in South Africa and the Remote/Field support technical teams for Robotics and Sports Medicine. This is crucial to enable Smith & Nephew to deliver continuous technical service and build enduring relationships with customers alongside our equipment.

Key requirements for success:

  • Experience in leading Scope and Power technical staff to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Ensuring high-quality repairs on instruments within specified turn-around time frames.
  • Adherence to all company standard operating procedures and management of a service center that complies with local regulations and international standards such as ISO 13485, FDA, and GxP.
  • Proficiency in identifying, developing, and reporting monthly Key Performance Indicators related to meeting customer expectations, technician productivity, revenue growth, and other identified metrics supporting operational execution.
  • Strong budget management skills.
  • Leading Field and Level 2 or 3 technical support teams for Robotics, SPM, AWM, and Trauma franchises.
  • Collaborating with the Global Service team to create tiered Service offerings and formulate go-to-market strategies for new OEMs to be incorporated through Service channels.

Minimum qualifications for successful candidates:

  • Master's degree in biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Four years of experience in the manufacturing or repair of medical devices.
  • Preferred four years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize data for effective decision-making.
  • Thorough knowledge of ISO13485 and FDA requirements, as well as GxP understanding and experience.
  • Effective communication and consensus-building capabilities.
  • Experience operating within a Matrix Organization.
  • Proven capability to drive change and establish new processes and procedures.
