Are you an experienced Operations Manager and have a real knack for automation? This job is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and will be responsible for the Operations function for Sub-Saharan Africa and collaboration with other facilities.

The operations manager oversees the Manufacturing, Production, and Stores functions. He will coordinate with the procurement and logistics team to get the parts on time for assembly activities. Ensures the resources (People, Equipment and Materials) are efficiently utilized to maximize the profit. Participate in the Global & Regional calls and meetings to ensure global Emerson compliances. Across the portfolios of ASCO, AVENTICS, TOPWORX, TESCOM, PLC SCADA products and solutions. As well as other products when needed.

Your role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Is responsible for the safety within the Operational areas such as the Workshop & Warehouse
  • Makes sure that systems are defined, understood, and implemented in all areas of the business
  • Is responsible to develop and maintain an efficient quality program.
  • Makes sure that any quality concerns are handled as per the processes required.
  • Leads quality to make sure that quality level is in line with customer expectations.
  • Works with MEA Discrete Automation leadership to define and implement the Middle East & Africa operations/manufacturing/engineering strategy related to the South African facility.
  • Is the representative of the South African Operations leading the team.
  • As such is responsible for all activities taking place such as manufacturing of assemblies, stock control, support on the engineering of customer solutions, and other warehouse activities.
  • Sets and gets approval on annual KPI (Key Performance Indicators) for the operations
  • Makes sure that the achievements of KPIs are permanently in line with the objectives
  • Analyses gaps and takes needed actions to close the gaps
  • Service level improvements (RDSL, PDSL, OTIF, etc.), inventory rightsizing, improved efficiency, and reduced expedited freight among others
  • Makes sure that capacity is permanently in line with load in manufacturing
  • Makes recommendations to adjust resources to balance the capacity
  • Makes recommendations with sound justification for new investments
  • Attends S&OP meetings and represents the operations team

What do I need to be considered for this role?

  • Mechatronics/Instrumentation/Mechanical or required Automation degree/diploma qualification with ERP (Oracle preferred) system experience.
  • Excellent computer skills, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; must be proficient in English.
  • Strong experience & great collaborator with the ability to understand customers and the Emerson business environment.
- +10 years' Experience in an Operations/Manufacturing/Engineering solutions environment.
