Mount Nelson Hotel is looking for a
Laundry Manager to join the team.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Assigns and reviews the work of Laundry employees engaged in receiving, washing, ironing, packaging, and delivering Laundry to various departments or guests.
  • Lead and supervise the day to day operations of the department to ensure hotel standards are followed.
  • Responsible for the proper handling of guest and hotel laundry.
  • Ensuring the washing of linen and uniform as per departmental standards.
  • Ensure routine maintenance and upkeep of all laundry equipment.
  • Develop new methods for increasing laundry efficiency.
  • Record and monitor laundry cost monthly.
  • Make reports and recommendations when required.
  • Oversee the laundry equipment preventive maintenance program.
  • Approve distribution of linen to guestrooms and hotel outlets.
  • Inspect the uniform room and all uniforms daily for replacement and damage.
  • Conduct daily departmental meetings with supervisors and Laundry team.
  • Ensure tool and chemical control of items used in the laundry operation.
  • Provide budgetary input regarding current and projected expenditures for supplies, equipment and equipment repair/replacement associated with the laundry operation.
  • Ensure the general cleanliness of all work areas and linen storage room.
  • Inspect linen/garments for stains, rips or damage.
  • Monitor arrivals and departures to ensure sufficient stock is available.
  • Attend Housekeeping meetings as and when required.
  • Actively respond to guest questions, concerns, and requests and update and respond to glitches daily.
  • Maintain and manage the OnTrack system daily.
  • Perform spot checks in all outlets to monitor the quality of work of the Laundry attendants and seamstress (Ironing, repair works etc).
  • Conduct regular meetings with hotel outlet managers to build and maintain a working relationship and to discuss any Laundry concerns.
  • Control all purchasing orders for the Laundry department and manage the budget accordingly.
  • Conduct quarterly OE stock count.
  • Prepare the monthly condemned linen items report and submit to purchasing. Ensure the replacement thereof by drawing accurate stock from stores to maintain par levels.
  • Assist in other areas of the Housekeeping department as and when required.
  • Weekly stock takes of irons and ironing boards and report shortages accordingly.
  • Conduct regular training of hygiene standards with the department.

Requirements:

Experience and qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric) Certificate, bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years housekeeping/laundry management experience in hotel industry
  • Previous experiences with Opera advantageous
Knowledge and skills

  • Proficient in time management; the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Thorough knowledge of housekeeping and laundry operations required
  • Computer literacy essential
  • Knowledge on maintaining and updating records related to inventory and laundry supplies.
  • Indepth knowledge of mixing processes, preparing solutions, sterilization methods, temperature that needs to be maintained during various laundering process for different types of material etc
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, care, and repair of various laundry equipment
  • Understand or be capable of learning about commercial machinery
  • Manage luxury details consistently in guest laundry delivery
