Market Complexity

Diageo SA operates in a complex, ever changing and extremely exciting market environment. Diageo SA has emerged as the leading spirits business in South Africa facing competition from long established competitors.

The liquor market in South Africa operates through multiple customer channels and routes to market.

This is in order to effectively service consumers across an extremely diverse range of socio-economic circumstances, cultural affiliations and geographical ranges.


Our extensive spirits brand portfolio services consumers across our diverse nation and we must continuously strive to keep up with the fast changing market trends and challenges inherent in that.

Leadership and Functional

  • High level of professionalism and integrity, with strong analytical, drafting and negotiating skills
  • Commercial pragmatic approach, with ability to express legal concepts in clear and practical manner, and to provide practical, workable solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and coaching skills, including the ability to lead engaging presentations & training sessions to diverse audiences
  • Ability to manage time effectively in order to meet deadlines and provide timeous responses to queries
Purpose of Role

  • To provide proactive legal leadership, support and advice in assisting the Supply Chain, Business Integrity, Finance and HR functions in achieving their core strategic objectives whilst appropriately managing and mitigating the associated legal risks and driving the legal compliance agenda to preserve value (financial and reputational).
  • To provide support in managing the organisation's licensing renewals.
  • Ensure that the Legal & Corporate Security Director and Team receive quality support to achieve jointly agreed objectives.
  • Minimise legal risk for Diageo by ensuring that the company's legal agreements are sound, commercially sensible and documented on time.
Top Accountabilities

  • Become a key member of a proactive, committed Legal and Corporate Security team.
  • Lead the provision of legal advice and support required by the business, including providing input on implications of strategy and providing solutions to enable delivery of business objectives.
  • Ensure that the Legal department has full visibility of all issues and is servicing the business' legal needs effectively.
