About Payment Operations


Responsible for internal account reconciliation relating to Domestic, cross border and VISA card payments, associated exception management and client payment queries.

Responsible for pre-production UAT activities and incident management.

Job Purpose

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to

  • Responsible for User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities across all payment streams
  • Putting together training content for Payment Ops team members
  • Responsible for Learning and Development activities
  • Act as a product coach across all payment streams and processes
  • Work with DEL to create new Standard Operating Procedures and help Payment Operations with the review of the existing ones
  • Fill a gap in other teams when person on leave or when there are capacity issues (plug and play)
  • Production of relevant management reports
  • Event/Incident management drives with IT and setup war room etc
  • Compile portfolio of evidence to address audit findings against Payment Operations

Personal Attributes and Skills

  • Microsoft excel, outlook, word proficient
  • Paradigm essential (medical scheme experience, navigate and resolve queries)
  • Discovery Health system and process knowledge (advantageous)
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Analyse reports & documents
  • Audit payment requests
  • Providing payment confirmations to internal stakeholders
  • Attentive to detail & time management
  • Deadline drive and 100% accuracy

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Finance or Economics
  • 3 years' financial experience (advantage), Discovery experience essential
  • SAP payment systems knowledge
  • Familiar with banking cut off times, both domestic and FX payment knowledge
  • Understanding domestic, FX and VISA Card payment processing and payment settlement rules
  • Knowledge in Discovery Group products supported by Payment Operations (Vitality, Discovery Pay, PAYG, DCP Life, etc.)
  • Knowledge of third payments (VAS, iStore payments) advantageous
