Essential functions of the job:

Formulate strategies and ensure that a supporting budget is compiled, approved and managed effectively. ? Ensure consistency in messaging & brand identity compliance across all communication channels.
Effectively manage a team of communication practitioners, as well as internal client expectations in terms of communication priorities.
Attend and represent the business unit on internal and external forums.
Collaborate with other departments to achieve operational outcomes.
Act as the lead in the execution of a Public Relations strategy.
Ensure that events are executed in a manner that represents the brand and ensures effective engagement.

Constantly evaluate projects/actions and resources to ensure that objectives are achieved and that shortcomings are addressed by taking corrective actions.

Draft, review and negotiate contracts with third-party service providers to ensure delivery of services.
Measure the effectiveness of communication initiatives and implement new and alternative communication channels.
Compile and monitor a risk register.
Ensure adherence to all legislative and regulatory prescripts.

A National Diploma/bachelor's degree in marketing, Communication, Public Relations, or Journalism or equivalent is a minimum requirement.


At least 8 years' relevant experience in the medical schemes and/or insurance environment of which 4 years must be on management level.


Skills and Knowledge:

The theory, practice, techniques, philosophy, and implementation of communication and PR strategies.
Familiar with reprographics and printing processes.
The Medical Schemes Act and related relevant legislation, such as the POPI Act.
In-depth knowledge of communication trends and the effective use of multiple channels to ensure the delivery of communication messages; and
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Computer literate in MS Office
Valid K53 driving license.
Strategic thinking.
Skilled in preparing and presenting to a variety of audiences.
Exceptional people skills.
Innovative, creative and independent.
Able to manage various projects simultaneously.
