Job Description

Position Overview:

The Head of Finance will be instrumental in shaping the financial strategy and performance of the organization. This key leadership role demands a seasoned finance professional with vast experience in fundraising, investor relations, and overseeing the commercial aspects of the finance domain. The appointed individual will drive financial planning and analysis, ensure strong financial controls, and offer strategic insights to facilitate decision-making at the highest echelons.

Your daily adventures include:

Fundraising and Investor Relations:
  • Devise and implement fundraising strategies to secure capital from diverse channels such as equity, debt, and strategic partnerships.
  • Cultivate relationships with current investors and stakeholders, providing them with regular updates on financial performance, growth strategies, and market opportunities.
  • Create and deliver convincing investment proposals, business cases, and financial models to potential investors and partners.
  • Lead the due diligence processes, negotiations, and deal structuring to optimize funding terms in alignment with the strategic objectives of the company.
Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis:
  • Supervise the development of comprehensive financial plans, budgets, and forecasts, ensuring they align with business objectives and market dynamics.
  • Offer detailed financial analysis and reporting to facilitate strategic decision-making by the executive team and board of directors.
  • Identify and evaluate key financial risks and opportunities, and implement strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on growth prospects.
Commercial Finance Management:
  • Direct the commercial facets of the finance realm, encompassing pricing strategies, profitability analysis, and cost management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess new business ventures, product launches, and initiatives for market expansion.
  • Ensure efficient cash flow management, optimize working capital, and plan liquidity to sustain operational and strategic necessities.
  • Manage SARB and Exchange Control requirements.
  • Guarantee seamless Finance Operations coverage, including Treasury management.
  • Implement tax optimization strategies and ensure compliance.
Financial Governance and Compliance:
  • Establish and uphold robust financial controls, policies, and procedures to comply with regulatory standards and industry norms.
  • Supervise internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and adherence to legal obligations.
  • Instill best practices in financial management, risk evaluation, and corporate governance.
  • Take charge of the compliance function and possess a thorough understanding of the National Credit Act.
  • Ensure business compliance with relevant legislation such as the National Credit Act, FICA, and ITA.
  • Coordinate with external compliance agencies to ensure all submissions to authorities are in order.

Administration:
  • Ensure organizational efficiency in terms of file management, staff permissions, and database and file security.
  • Conduct salary negotiations with potential hires.
  • Lead disciplinary inquiries with staff when necessary.
  • Oversee all aspects of business administration including PCs and stakeholders.
  • Supervise any legal advice being sought by the business.
  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding processes.


Requirements

What it takes to succeed:

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; an MBA or relevant professional qualification (e.g., CA, CFA) is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance experience, focusing on fundraising, investor relations, and commercial finance.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record in securing capital and managing investor relations in a high-growth environment.
  • Possess strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • Exhibit exceptional communication and presentation skills to effectively engage and influence stakeholders across all levels.
  • Have extensive knowledge of the financial services industry, particularly within credit lending and fintech sectors.
  • Showcase leadership and team management skills dedicated to fostering a culture of high performance.
  • Be familiar with SQL and proficient in working with data.
  • Highly organized with the capability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strategic and innovative thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Possess strong business acumen and commercial awareness.
