Position Overview:


The purpose of a estimator is to process the information received from engineering into material take-offs', namely in the IPL, and produce purchase requests, subcontract packages, and store requisitions.

The role reports to the Job Prep Team Leader

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Educational level

  • NQF6 or ND in Mechanical Engineering
  • Computer skills, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office 36
  • Microsoft Navision would be an advantage.

Language Skills

  • Ability to communicate in English, both written and oral.

Experience

  • Work and training related to Maritime industry.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Must be a multitask individual with the ability to prioritise activities;
  • Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables;
  • Good technical insight and reasoning.

Responsibilities:

  • Checking drawings, documents, and drawings revisions received from engineering.
  • Processing drawing information in the IPL Worksheet and DDS as per the job prep procedure.
  • Do the BOM completion in the IPL worksheet based on the available information.
  • Add planning dates to the IPL worksheet based on project planning.
  • Create/update the purchase request (PR) from the IPL Worksheet information and send it to the SC department.
  • Create/update subcontracting packages based on production requirements, using available drawings, material takeoff lists, and planning dates to compile a detailed scope of work and package.
  • Consulting with procurement, production, planning departments, and subcontractors on the scope of work to be subcontracted or done in production and the timing as required.
  • Create the store's requisitions for production and subcontractors based on the pick list from production and subcontractors.
  • Provide technical support to production and subcontractors in terms of drawings, MTO lists, and store requests created.
  • Being able to correct or reexamine the drawings as required and provide feedback to engineering/production on asbuilt information.
  • Provide technical support to procurement in terms of PR's
  • Process drawings and packages are to be compiled and printed for production and subcontractors.
