  • The main purpose of this position is to provide strategic direction and managerial leadership to the enterprise architecture (EA) function to ensure that the architecture disciplines support the strategy and operations of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB).
  • Detailed Description
  • Develop and implement the vision and strategy of the EA function in the SARB and ensure continuous maturity of the function.

Provide leadership and strategic direction in the management of the EA Division to ensure that the SARB understands and derives value from the EA services.


  • Support the SARB's strategy execution by fulfilling the role of architecture during the strategic management process.
  • Lead the development of an implementation plan for the EA based on SARB's business strategy and requirements.
  • Research and understand the technology and information trends and provide practical advice and best practices to overcome challenges and to successfully deliver the expected business outcomes.
  • Direct and coordinate budget activities to fund EA operations and maximise efficiency within the EA Division.
  • Direct human resources activities, which includes the approval of human resources plans as well as determining and capacitating staffing requirements in line with EA Division's strategic goals.
  • Lead and facilitate the governance, assurance and standards to guide EA decision making across the SARB and ensure that risks are identified, assessed and that adequate and effective risk mitigation measures are implemented.
  • Design and construct future
  • Lead the development and execution of communication plans and the education of personnel in support of the EA function.
  • Demonstrate, through appropriate business metrics, and communicate the achievements, impact and value of enterprise architecture in the SARB.
  • Enable enterprise ideation and innovation.
  • Manage performance and development of direct reports.
Job Requirements

- an Honours' degree in Commerce, Computer Science, BSc Engineering or a related field of study;

10-12 years' experience in at least three information technology (IT) disciplines as well as business exposure in the financial services environment with at least five years in general management.


Additional requirements include:
postgraduate qualification in business studies will be an added advantage;
- broad financial services industry and business knowledge;
- knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting and risk management;
- ability to develop an EA strategy and plan to support the business strategy
- ability to quality assurance conceptual and logical architectures;
- continuous improvement knowledge and skill;
- programme and project management;
- business process engineering, design and improvement;
- familiarity with basic modelling approaches and tools;
- familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle (SDLC) management, IT services management, infrastructure and operations and EA and ITIL frameworks;
- enterprise and solution architecture skills;
- information and data management;
- enterprise architecture frameworks and methods;

  • TOGAF, Zachman and other industry architectural standards knowledge
- business ecosystems, cloud computing, SOA, big data and predictive analytics knowledge; and
- interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, negotiation and strong leadership skills.
