SENIOR LECTURER:

ACADEMIC STAFF AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing and implementing a fully online academic programme that focuses on the professional development of academic staff in higher education and other post-school institutions of learning
  • Managing the administrative, logístical and financial aspects of the project in collaboration with the Head of Department
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders such as UPOnline and HEPSA
  • Assuring the quality of all aspects of the project, including the academic integrity of the envisaged programme
  • Reporting and drafting documentation, among other relating to external accreditation processes
  • Facilitating learning in an online environment
  • Conducting research and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)
  • Providing postgraduate supervision
  • Offering and coordinating other education programmes as per the needs of the Faculty.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

SENIOR LECTURER

  • Relevant Doctoral degree, preferably with a focus on academic staff development, curriculum development, adult education, teaching and learning, or higher education;
  • At least 3 years' experience in higher education, including teaching and/or professional staff development;
  • At least 1 publication in a scientific journal;
  • Evidence of conference papers delivered;
  • Experience in academic administration;
  • Evidence of working with external stakeholders in a transdisciplinary manner
  • Familiarity with online and/or hybrid teaching and learning environments.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Ability to engage in teaching and learning at a higher education level;
  • Advanced level of computer literacy;
  • Ability to engage in teaching and learning at a higher education level;
  • Ability to work in an online Learning Management System;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills in English;
  • A thorough understanding of professional development in higher education;
  • Ability to work in a community of scholars;
  • Ability to initiate a research project;
  • Valuebased and valuedriven personality traits with the ability to set a professional example;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and organisational abilities;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Knowledge about the external approval (DHET), accreditation (CHE) and registration (SAQA) processes in higher education;
  • Ability to coordinate or manage programme delivery;
  • A professional teacher education qualification;
  • Evidence of development of modules or programmes for online or hybrid delivery;
  • Formative and summative assessment experience;
  • Evidence of research activity over past two years;
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
